One of the biggest surprises of the new Star Trek films (recently dubbed the “Kelvin” series of movies since it takes place in an alternate universe than the previous Star Trek incarnations) was the revelation of the Spock/Uhura relationship. While it makes sense that these two characters would potentially pursue a relationship in a different timeline, technically Spock and Uhura were actually supposed to lock lips a lot sooner in the original series–until William Shatner had something to say about it. Star Trek Beyond is scheduled for a U.S. release on July 22.
