SNL is going…across the pond?

A New York staple for the last 50 years has been Saturday Night Live. But now the American show, created by a Canadian, is going across the pond?
The show is not exclusive to just the United States. We’ve seen versions of it in Japan, Italy, and more. But it is kind of funny to see England take an American show and make it their own. I guess it was only a matter of time since we do it to them time and time again. Remember how our take on The Office was better? (Sorry, I had to!)
Saturday Night Live here in the states was created by Lorne Michaels, who will will executive produce the United Kingdom take on the series. As of right now, there is no news on who the cast will be or how the show will differ from the New York based sketch series but we do know that it will premiere on Sky TV in 2026. This does bring up some questions for me though.
As of right now, if you’re a big enough star, you end up on Saturday Night Live. Meaning we’ve had some British icons hosting the show. More recently, Charlie XCX hosted but we’ve seen Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Benedict Cumberbatch, performances from Sir Paul McCartney, and more. Does that mean we will no longer have British talent on the flagship show? Or will we trade celebrities back and forth?
I do think it is an interesting concept because British humor is, decidedly, different than American humor. So getting to see their approach to sketch comedy in a format like Saturday Night Live is of interest to me. But until we know more, I am going to be making jokes about the British taking a show from us. Only because we’ve…done it multiple times and they complain about it.
