Finding a name-brand vintage product at Goodwill is hitting the jackpot. After all, these highly sought-out secondhand products are dime a dozen. But seeing the price tag evaporated the excitement for one woman after spotting a pair of vintage Coach wedges.

In a nine-second clip, avid thrifter Daphne (@dabne1738) stands in front of a shoe rack in Goodwill. She picks up a high-heeled wedge from the rack. Then, she turns it to reveal the tanned, jacquard monogram with “Coach” embroidered on the heel.

When she turns the wedge so the golden colored sole faces the camera, she unveils a $19.99 price sticker plastered on it. In her mind, this isn’t a reasonable price.

“Bro Goodwill so greedy. They get ts for free,” the content creator fumes in the text overlay.

Viewers Had Mixed Reactions

In the comments section, there was a unanimous agreement that this was a steal for Coach. But for Goodwill was where the heated debate ensued.

“$20 is extremely cheap for Coach heels even second hand, that’s like a 90% discount. If you can’t pay $20 for luxury brand heels, then you have bigger fish to fry. Heels aren’t a necessity,” one viewer commented.

“20 for coach shoes instead of 100+ in this economy? Yeah I’ll take it,” another remarked.

“Well yes though for coach 20 isn’t bad at all. The whole point once more is that they get this inventory for FREE,” a third stated.

“People seem to not understand THRIFTING is supposed to be affordable. Goodwill shoes used to be 4.50 max. If I wanted a 20 dollar shoe, I would have went to Walmart,” a fourth echoed.

How Much Do Preowned Coach Heels Cost?

Almost everyone knows name brands like Coach aren’t the most affordable option for the average person. In fact, its high heels are well over triple digits. And it seems secondhand ones aren’t any cheaper. Scouring through sites like eBay, a pair of good-condition wedges similar to the one at Daphne’s Goodwill is $80 and another $100. Some of these secondhand shoes can be comparable to brand new. So, in contrast to other platforms, Goodwill’s look like a bargain.

With that being said, Indetexx states sellers charge based on the condition, brand, style, and rarity. By comparing how much the shoes originally cost and what they are currently worth, it gives an idea of how much to charge. Typically, the more scarce and the better the condition increases the value.

So, How Does Goodwill Determine Its Prices?

Despite the complaints, Goodwill does assess prices based on what the item is worth, as other resellers do. Since the organization gives autonomy to its locations, they have free rein to choose their prices. Through research, they set a price tag that reflects that fair market value while making the most of the item’s value, per U.S. Sun. On the other hand, the higher-end donations like designer brands usually head straight to the online auction site for customers to bid on. Sales generated funds for community programs.
