Ghostface wielding a knife in Scream (2022)

When does Scream (2022) release on DVD and Blu-Ray?

Get ready to Scream

Scream (2022), the 5th installment in one of America’s favorite horror slasher franchises, hit theaters on January 14th, 2022. Scream brings back the original icons of the franchise, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Roger L. Jackson. The film also welcomes new faces Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, and Dylan Minnette.

The original Scream released in 1996 and was directed by the legendary Wes Craven. The film set a new standard in the horror genre through its self-awareness and wry commentary on horror genre conventions. A sequel, Scream 2, was quickly released in 1997 and matched Scream’s success with its satirical aim at horror sequels.

Unfortunately, Scream lost its momentum with Scream 3 and Scream 4, which fell into the very horror clichés the franchise previously abhorred. However, Scream (2022) has managed to put the franchise back on track. Taking place 25-years after the original film, Scream explores the resurfacing of Ghostface as he terrorizes a group of teenagers who are connected to the original killings.

Scream received praise and generally positive reactions from viewers and critics, scoring 76% on Rotten Tomatoes and surpassing $100 million at the box office. Scream was the first installment in the franchise that wasn’t directed by Craven, who passed in 2015. However, the film certainly did justice to Craven’s work. Scream was strongly praised for upholding the original franchise’s legacy and for boasting strong performances from its cast members.

When to expect Scream on DVD/Blu-Ray

Scream is coming to DVD and Blu-Ray on April 5, 2022. Scream has also already been released digitally, available for purchase on March 1st, 2022. While the digital release provides viewers the opportunity to watch the film from the comfort of their homes, it lacks the real prize—bonus features.

When Scream does release on DVD it will offer a plethora of bonus content and special features. This will include commentary from Scream’s directors and screenwriters, interviews with the original Scream actors, interviews with the new Scream actors, and a special tribute to Craven.
