Scientific Progress Drawn as a Subway Map

This article is over 14 years old and may contain outdated information

Science blogger Crispian Jago has done an impressive job connecting hundreds of the great scientific thinkers of the past 500 years on a chronologically organized subway map with colored ‘lines’ representing fields like chemistry, genetics, theoretical physics, etc.. There are ‘transfers’ for thinkers whose work spans multiple disciplines: For instance, Gallileo is a triple transfer, with stops in mathematics, astronomy & cosmology, and theoretical physics.

The map is still in beta, so to speak — Jago’s getting lots of interesting feedback on his blog currently about areas of improvement — but it’s still really neat and informative. Bring on the wall poster!
