At last our long national nightmare is over: We’ve finally got Ryan Gosling in the Star Wars universe. Now if only we can make him Johnny Blaze in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…

At Star Wars Celebration in Japan, Gosling joined director Shawn Levy on stage with Kathleen Kennedy and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni revealed that Gosling would be starring in a new Star Wars story. The film is called Star Wars:Starfighter and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.

The film is described as “a standalone adventure taking place approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The film, which will begin production this Fall, is an entirely new adventure featuring all-new characters set in a period of time that has not been explored on screen yet.”

Honestly? That’s all I need to know. Taking Gosling to an “uncharted” place of the Star Wars storyline is exciting. Right now, we’ve been pretty much existing in the major storyline of Star Wars outside of shows like The Acolyte. So to see what the galaxy is like after the fall of the First Order is exciting to me. Especially since, as the press release states, these are all new characters.

Actors like Ryan Gosling have fans clamoring for them to be in our favorite franchises. So to see him working with Levy, whose nostalgic shows and movies like Stranger Things and Deadpool & Wolverine, is an exciting pairing to see tackle the galaxy far far away.

So while Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) are all out in the galaxy, we’ll get a new look at the world post Kylo Ren and I cannot wait. Plus we get Ryan Gosling in a Star Wars property and that’s really the draw for me here.
