Woman turns mom’s old wedding gown into rehearsal dinner dress. Then the entire internet came for her neck: ‘From timeless to Temu’

Some things are meant to be updated. Others… should be left exactly as they are. One bride took her mom’s timeless, floor-length wedding gown and decided to give it a “modern” makeover for her rehearsal dinner.
Except that a makeover would be putting it lightly. She debuted a dress that viewers are now comparing to Temu products. What started as a sentimental tribute quickly turned into a viral roast session, with millions of viewers mourning the original.
What Did She Do to the Dress?
Ever heard of instant regret? Now add ‘secondhand’ in the middle, and voila, it perfectly describes what Mayson’s (@maysonperdue) 5.2 million viewers are currently going through. One would be surprised at the amount of rage and disappointment a 17-second clip could incur.
It starts simply, with the text overlay saying, “Turning my mom’s wedding dress into my rehearsal dinner dress.”
Mayson stands in front of her camera, showing off an elegant wedding gown. It has a sweetheart neckline and the hem grazes the floor. She turns to show the back, which is a corset with ribbons. The clip then cuts to the ‘after,’ and now Mayson is debuting a chopped, knee-length version.
She twirls happily, and the video then cuts for the last time, this time to her rehearsal dinner. It’s a picture of her and presumably, her mother. Both are smiling happily in the photo. Mayson’s TikTok caption reads: “Yes I know… I should’ve just worn it as my wedding dress.”
Is This a New Trend?
Mayson’s angry viewers would be even more enraged to find out she isn’t the only one who went through with the idea. Just a week ago, another TikToker went viral for the same thing, gaining over 3 million views.
The top comment reads: “people need to stop doing this.” In her video, she does the same thing as Mayson: cutting her mother’s wedding dress to just above the knees. She, however, insists that it was her mother’s idea and asks her viewers not to “freak out.”
In uplifting news, another TikToker also converted her mother’s dress into something else. Except hers was the robe she got ready in on the day of the wedding. This time, viewers were more forgiving and applauded the idea. So, it seems the internet is still undecided on what to think. But one thing’s for certain, it seems repurposing your mother’s wedding dress is becoming a fad.

Viewers Start Roasting
No one’s holding back in Mayson’s comments section. Ever straightforward, one viewer with over 37,000 likes says, “girl it’s ruined.” A second viewer states, “From elegant wedding dress. To a dress from Shein.”
“I’m so [expletive] irritated rn,” says a third. “You absolutely destroyed the most beautiful dress i’ve seen holy,” says another.
A comment with over 50,000 likes says, “Noo it was so pretty before.” Mayson then replies, “It would have sat in her closet, never to be worn again… so why not make something sentimental out of it?”
Another viewer says, “Girl- it didn’t have to be short, to be a ‘rehearsal dress’ It looked classier how it was.” Mayson responds, “I didn’t realize you were the rehearsal dress expert.”
All in all, Mayson has over 5,800 comments sharing their opinions but at the end, she ends the debate by commenting, “Thanks for the input everyone, but luckily the only ones that mattered were mine and my mom’s. We loved it.”
