Introducing Ruby Chocolate: The Sweet That Proves Just How Much of a Girly-Girl I Am

Recommended Videos

Most of the time, I don’t consider myself particularly “girly” or “femme.” Sure I like to wear earrings, or I’ll throw on some lipstick, or I’ll go on wine chuggings tastings with a group of giggling female friends, but generally speaking I think that my feminine gender expression is more balanced than skewed. And then I hear about something like ruby chocolate, and I’m instantly the girliest girl who ever girled.

“New types of chocolate” aren’t really a thing many people think about, but eighty years ago was the first time white chocolate came onto the scene, joining milk and dark chocolate. Apparently, there were cocoa beans that were left unexplored … until now. Earlier this week, Swiss-based company Barry Callebaut, “the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products” announced the arrival of Ruby chocolate.

According to the Barry Callebaut website, ruby chocolate is made from the ruby cocoa bean, and thanks to “unique processing Barry Callebaut unlocks the flavor and color tone naturally present in the Ruby bean. No berries or berry flavor is added. No color is added.” And yet a berry fruitiness and a very berry color exist. Nature is so random and wonderful.

And all that is very well and good, but my first instinct upon seeing the new sweet was “PINK CHOCOLATE!” My brain was literally fired up with I love pink! I love chocolate! FINALLY someone has brought together two of my great loves in a beautiful, beautiful way! It was the most girly moment I’ve had in a long time.

Seriously, though, isn’t it purdy? I love this particular shade of pink (and it displays really nicely with the brown and white chocolate, doesn’t it?), and the fact that no color was added to make it that way is all the more awesome.

Then, after my girly moment, I immediately had to weep. Almost six months ago now, I stopped eating sugar for health reasons, so I won’t even be able to try this! WAAAAAH! So some of you lovely folks out there are going to have to find some ruby chocolate and tell me how it is. You’d be performing a great service.

In the meantime, maybe I can wear the ruby chocolate in a girly way?

Now these are ruby necklaces I can get behind!
