Robert Pattinson Teasing Zoë Kravitz for Never Seeing Twilight Is Delightful

Fans know Robert Pattinson from an array of things. If it’s not his turn as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, then it’s probably Edward Cullen in the Twilight series. The sparkly vampire series is something that, for four years, took over the world and also eclipsed any other work that Pattinson had done or was doing. Luckily, that time has passed, and we have a new career for both Pattinson and his costar Kristen Stewart that extends long past their vampire counterparts.

But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t still questions about Twilight that pop up every once in a while—like when Pattinson is doing press for his upcoming film The Batman. When talking to People, Pattinson and costar Zoë Kravitz were talking when Kravitz admitted that she has never seen the films. “I didn’t watch Twilight,” Kravitz admitted, with Pattinson’s teasingly saying “Yeah, right” in response.

It isn’t that surprising. Kravitz does seem too cool to be into Twilight, but I do love that she admits that she didn’t “hate it” but, rather, that she just didn’t see it—even if she forgot that her best friend dragged her to the first movie.

“It’s not even cool to be a hater anymore,” Pattinson teases. “That’s so 2010.” And honestly, he’s right. He’s teasing Kravitz, but there was a time when hating on Twilight was the fun thing to do because it was easy to make fun of something that, primarily, teenage girls liked. But the world has shifted in a pretty interesting way since then.

The resurgence of Twilight

As someone who watched the entire series again in one day in recent years, I’ve both been acutely aware of the shift, as well as in the thick of it when everyone was hating it. I knew both sides of this history, and I’m happy that Pattinson and Stewart are having a time again outside of the series and are showing the world how talented they are.

But back in 2010, it was easy to find someone who hated Robert Pattinson simply because he was Edward Cullen. Pattinson himself didn’t love Edward, but that didn’t stop people from being mean to the actor about the series. The change in that perception has clearly had an effect on how Pattinson talks about Twilight, and I’m happy that he’s joking around and ready to make jokes about the Team Edward and Team Jacob fights of the 2010s. But more importantly, I’m happy that both stars (Robert Pattison and Kristen Stewart) have seemingly shrugged off the Twilight hatred and moved on to bigger and better things.

Pattinson is Bruce Wayne now, Kristen Stewart is nominated for Best Actress for her work in Spencer, and fans can openly admit to liking the Twilight series without someone making fun of them. It’s a great time to be a fan of these actors and whatever the film series was.
