May This Razzie Be the Only Award Mel Gibson Receives on His “Rehabilitation” Tour

Nominations for the 38th Annual Razzie Awards are out, one day before the nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced. They include the usual favorites, like the Transformers, Fifty Shades, and Medea franchises, as well as expected entries like The Emoji Movie and The Mummy. Darren Aronofsky’s mother! also picked up a bunch of nominations.

For me, though, the most welcome nomination was Mel Gibson’s nomination for Worst Supporting Actor in Daddy’s Home 2. Gibson is currently on his rehabilitation tour, despite having shown what feels like very little contrition for his past behavior, which includes accusing Jews of causing “all the wars in the world” during a police confrontation as well as making abusive phone calls and pleading no-contest to misdemeanor battery of his then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. Until he owns up to those actions, it will continue to be deeply uncomfortable to see him in a comedy about families.

The Razzie winners will be announced on Saturday, March 3, 2018.
