‘Quit voting republican’: Farmers distressed over plummeting soybean prices as Trump continues waging trade wars with China

Since beginning his second term as President of the United States this year, Donald Trump has made one misstep after another, causing distress among Americans. Currently, one of the main sources of unrest among U.S. citizens is the government shutdown and Trump’s tariffs, both of which have led to an economic setback.

On October 1, 2025, the government shutdown was driven by disagreements between Republicans and Democrats over a funding bill. While Republicans were clear about their demands for the “Big beautiful bill,” Democrats were unwilling to pass it as it was, because it lacked essential Medicare and Medicaid reforms needed by Americans, especially those without economic privilege.

During the shutdown, Trump and his allies have used every tactic in the Republican playbook to malign the Democrats, often blaming them for the crisis. They even threatened to lay off federal workers in blue states to intimidate them.

While many federal workers are furloughed until further notice, some are required to work, and neither group will receive salaries during the shutdown. This reduction in income affects their purchasing power and will influence market prices for goods and services, especially soybeans and beef. If this does not already affect item prices in the U.S., then Trump’s tariffs are to blame, which were imposed on China and other countries in an effort to pressure them into submission. These tariffs have already caused significant damage to the soybean and cattle sectors, which are experiencing record losses. Additionally, China’s efforts to establish trade routes with other countries could threaten the future of the American economy.

People are noticing all of this and more happening under Trump’s regime as he continues to establish a form of dictatorship. Under a video on X (formerly Twitter) of a farmer describing the struggles faced by people like him amid Trump’s ongoing trade war with China, many have expressed their opinions. One person wrote:

“Answer quit voting republican! You were all warned and voted for Trump anyway!”

Another person shared a similar view and said:

“Trump’s “winning” trade wars already cost farmers $12B in bailouts back in 2019, now he’s doubling down with 100% tariffs on the same crops, tanking prices to $9+ and screwing American agriculture all over again.”

Sometimes, it’s confusing to me whether this is the American government or just a sandcastle by the sea that Trump is continually playing with.
