Marvel just dropped some rather big news in the form of a Daredevil casting announcement: The Punisher will join the MCU in 2016 in season 2 of Daredevil!

Punisher, AKA Frank Castle, will be played by Jon Bernthal (The Wolf of Wall Street, The Walking Dead) and will seemingly play as a version of Daredevil who isn’t afraid to cross that lethal line that was such a big deal in the show’s first season. Marvel head of television Jeph Loeb said in their announcement,

Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige previously promised that there would be no dark turn for the MCU, but this certainly doesn’t make it look like TV, the current dark corner of that universe, plans to lighten up any time soon. What do you think, gang?
