‘Our TV Was Hacked Into’: Woman Says She Was Watching Ms. Rachel With Her Kids Then a Foreign Man Appeared on Her TV

It probably wasn't what she thought it was

The hacking allegations aren’t going away anytime soon. Whether it’s mobile phones, computers, or televisions, people today live in constant fear of being surveilled and of that information being used against them.

Ezra (@ezraalbritton) is one of many people who fear being watched without knowledge. In a TikTok video, Ezra said she fears her television has been hacked. “Um, today our TV was hacked into. I know a lot of people are saying that it’s just the phones being hacked into through YouTube, but no, it’s the TVs as well. And it happened to me this morning.”

She said she was having breakfast with her kids, watching Ms. Rachel with them while breastfeeding, when her daughter suddenly asked if there was an ad on the screen. Ezra said she looked up at the screen and saw a “foreign man” looking at her.

“And it’s not an ad at all,” Ezra said, “You can tell cause the man, it’s like he was on a webcam. That’s how the camera quality was. You could tell it was a webcam looking back at me. The man is sitting at a desk. There’s a bed behind him. He’s like scratching his head.”

“It’s like he’s watching a YouTube video. But we are the YouTube video.” She added,

Ezra also spoke about the “weirdest thing” about the experience, which was that even though she was trying to cut off the TV, it wasn’t allowing her to do so. “Like I kept trying to power it off. I tried the home button, and I automatically freaked out and ran and just unplugged my TV,” she said.

“Is Ms. Rachel being targeted too because it’s kids content”

Concluding her video, Ezra urged everyone to watch out for the alleged television hacking scam. Ezra’s video received more than a million likes and 2 thousand comments. Some people in the comments believed Ms. Rachel was being targeted because of her niche content.

One individual wrote, “Is Ms. Rachel being targeted too because it’s kids content or because she speaks out against the genocide?”

Another remarked, “I think its happening when you watch ms rachel because a lot of kids watch her and there targeting children so we need to address this issue to ms rachel…”

A few people in the comments noted that a foreign man appearing on their screens is common and that it was happening because parents weren’t playing the official Ms. Rachel videos but those shared by other users on YouTube. One user commented, “There just inserting themselves in the video. They’re not watching you bc tvs don’t come with cameras. You have to start paying attention to who is posting the YouTube videos also so you don’t come across things like this.”

Yet another group in the comments section of Ezra’s post said there is a possibility of her TV getting hacked. “Unfortunately anything connected to WiFi can get compromised,” said one individual. Another stated, “I’ve been saying YouTube isn’t for kids but nobody wants to listen.”

Whether Ezra’s TV got hacked or not is a separate story. However, regardless of the truth behind the incident, it remains true that the content that children watch online should be checked and regulated by the parents.
