NYC woman was standing on a street corner. Moments later, she gets accused of stalking another woman: ‘Lost so much sleep’
It was a confusing situation for Caroline.
It’s not uncommon to find yourself in unpredictable situations when you’re walking through the streets of New York City (NYC), like the time a woman somehow became an accessory to theft just when she moved to The Big Apple. For one woman, however, what was supposed to be a simple wait on the sidewalk unexpectedly turned into a public spectacle when she was accused of stalking another woman she didn’t know.
“Reminder not to believe everything that you see on the internet.” That’s the advice Caroline (@tinystar.world) told viewers in a video that has since gained over 17,800 views on TikTok. According to Caroline, the incident happened a couple of months before she recorded her TikTok video.
Caroline said she had been standing on a street corner, simply minding her business and scrolling through her phone when a woman suddenly appeared in front of her before allegedly pointing a camera in her face. “I was standing on a corner, like, in the city, waiting for my boyfriend, minding my business, scrolling on my phone,” Caroline recalled. “A woman comes up to me and sticks her phone in my face.”

While getting a phone shoved in your face by a complete stranger isn’t exactly an ideal scenario, Caroline said she initially didn’t think much of it, believing the woman might be a content creator filming street interviews, which is a rather common occurrence in New York. “I look up and smile cause I think she’s gonna be like, ‘What are you wearing?’” Caroline said.
The situation, however, quickly took a turn when the woman allegedly began screaming in her face and accused her of stalking on camera—a far cry from asking what designer she’s wearing. The woman supposedly went on a tirade, yelling, “This girl’s been stalking me all day! She’s following me… she won’t stop following me! She keeps stalking me! I’m just trying to get on the bus! I’m just like a woman trying to get on the bus, and this girl is stalking me!”
Understandably, Caroline was left speechless by the sudden outburst and was afraid of aggravating the situation. “I was like, ‘What?’ And then I was really scared, so I just stayed where I was and, like, didn’t respond,” the New Yorker said.
Caroline felt relief when the woman left after that. But her peace only lasted for a short moment when the woman returned and allegedly treated the bewildered crowd on the sidewalk with an encore of her stalking accusation: “Oh my god, please! Like, I’m just an innocent woman, like, trying to get on the bus! This girl won’t stop stalking me!”
Caroline says she nearly believed the woman’s convincing outburst
Caroline admitted that the woman’s tirade was so convincing it made her second-guess her own actions. “This was so believable that I was, like, starting to question. Like, ‘Wait. Have I been stalking her?’ I don’t know,” she said.
Some viewers found the incident amusing, saying, “girl this is funny asf omg.” Another shared their own experience of getting accused: “I was FaceTiming my mom and this huge guy starting filming and me saying I was filming him.” One viewer, however, thinks that the woman might be experiencing psychosis and paranoia.
According to NYC Health, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene found that one in four of the six million New Yorkers in 2024 experienced a mental health disorder each year, with 34% of those unable to receive treatment for various reasons. Among those who have been checked, 1% of them were diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder or psychosis, while 3% had bipolar disorder, mania, or manic depression. While nothing is confirmed based on Caroline’s video, it’s a possibility that shouldn’t be ruled out.
While Caroline recalled the incident with a bit of humor in her video, she claimed the encounter left her feeling off-kilter for a while, wondering when the video and the accusation would be made public online. “I lost so much sleep waiting for this footage to be released online somewhere,” she said in her caption. With videos going viral in an instant in today’s digital age, it’s only natural to worry about suddenly becoming infamous overnight.
