Finally A New Hunger Games Trailer, Plus A Whole Bunch Of Other Exciting Stuff!

May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor

Sometimes, the internet listens when I speak. Earlier today I lamented on Twitter that it was time for a second trailer for The Hunger Games to be released. Low and behold, one just did. The trailer plus a new, gut-wrenching image featuring Cinna and Katniss (along with a few words from Lenny Kravitz), news of an IMAX release and a forthcoming social media game are all after the jump! Oh, and information on how you can win tickets to the Los Angeles premiere…

The news today is Lionsgate is planning a limited IMAX run of The Hunger Games. Deadline posted the press release which says, “The first installment of the trilogy based on Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novels, will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX format and released in IMAX digital theatres in North America day-and-date on Friday, March 23, 2012. The film will have a limited one week engagement in IMAX theaters.”

“The Hunger Games and IMAX are a match made in heaven – fans love this book because its world is so vividly imagined and seeing the film in IMAX will make them feel as if they have landed right in the middle of the action. It is the ideal way for fans to experience this film for the first time,” said Lionsgate’s Joe Drake.

The Hollywood Reporter has news of a social media game (or would that be Social Media Hunger Game?) Lionsgate is releasing with Funtactix. “The Hunger Games Adventures allows fans to explore the world of Panem – the futuristic version of North America where The Hunger Games is set. Players will complete missions that will take them to each of the Districts and the Capitol where they will interact with the familiar characters from the book.” You’ll also be able to see a map of Panem for the first time and see how the Districts are situated.

Lenny Kravitz spoke with Rolling Stone about his role as Cinna in the film and they were nice enough to include this incredibly emotional picture along with it. Kravitz, mostly known for his musical career, said he was just waiting for the right roles. “I thought it was really good storytelling,“ he said of The Hunger Games. “I’m very much into stories. The character was interesting. I like Gary’s previous work. And I said, Yeah, let’s go.”

See Kravitz and a whole lot more in the brand-new trailer for The Hunger Games right now!!

And finally, Collider has two tickets to give away to the L.A. premiere of the film. The contest is open to everyone but you’d need to be able to get yourself to California if you win. They’re accepting entries until February 22th at 5pm PST. May the odds be ever if your favor.
