‘My daughter was choking’: Woman pulls over car to save daughter, then she gets issued a fine for where she parked

A mother who received a fine for stopping her vehicle in a no-stopping zone has claimed that she had to stop as she was dealing with an emergency. The woman, who stopped her car at Bristol Airport in the UK, said her daughter was choking at the time, but despite the urgency of the situation, her appeals against the fine have been declined, and the fine amount has been increased.
The woman, who goes by “@nachoavragefamily” on TikTok, said she was handed a £100 fine (roughly $130), for stopping at the side of the road where vehicles weren’t allowed to stop. However, that fine has since been upped to £170 (around $225).
“I can’t afford that,” the distraught mother said in her video. She went on to claim that the only reason she stopped was that her daughter was choking. “What did they want me to do?” She asked, “Not f—ing stop? Not stop and let my daughter choke to death?”
The mother said she was later told that there were signs at the side of the road warning drivers not to stop; however, she argued, “I’m not looking for signs; my daughter’s choking in the back.”
“Do you think I’m thinking, ‘hang on a minute, no, Savannah, stop f—ing choking, don’t die yet because the signs here say I can’t f—ing park,’” the angry mother said.
Despite her claims, the mother was still expected to pay
The woman claimed she tried to explain the situation and “even got a doctor’s letter” as proof that she wasn’t lying simply to avoid the fine. She said she also appealed the fine twice, but both of her appeals were denied.
Things only got worse as the mother was allegedly told that bailiffs would be sent to her house to collect the debt, and there was a court order demanding she pay. She was also warned that the fine amount could continue to increase as long as she refused to pay. “It’s disgusting,” the mother said, claiming that her daughter could have died had she not stopped her car and acted.
Viewers on TikTok expressed support for the mother, telling her to set up a GoFundMe to help cover the costs of the fine. Others advised her not to pay as “it falls under exceptional circumstances that have to be taken into consideration.” A third told her to “go to the media” and agreed that “this is not right.”
Disputing wrongful fines can be a difficult and sometimes unfair process, as one woman in Toronto found out recently after she was given a $75 parking ticket despite having paid for parking.
