For our friend BJ Colangelo from SlashFilm, Masters of the Universe checked a lot of boxes. Some people might have been worried about the mass appeal of this movie as we head into a packed summer.

“I HAVE THE POWER to tell you that #MastersOfTheUniverse is what happens when you watch the cartoon, grab your action figures, & make your own adventure,” Colangelo wrote. “An absolute blast, laugh out loud funny, and a Fisto-powered punch of heart. I loved it. Everything you could want.”

Biggest surprises of 2026

But, what about people who aren’t superfans? Perri Nemiroff from Collider was beyond impressed by Masters of the Universe. Check out what the Noovies-Close Up host.

“I was totally swept away by this super vibrant, weird and gleeful romp,” she wrote. “It’s downright ridiculous but ridiculous works when the cast and crew wholly get the kind of movie they’re making and are enthusiastic about going all out to bring it to life.”

Masters of the Universe is a colossally epic time

A lot of these reactions cannot overstate how much of a surprise this film was. Folks really do love this take on Eternia. Maggie Lovitt wrote, “I can’t stop thinking about how good Masters of the Universe is.”

Devotees are going to be pleased too. Scott Menzel typed, “Masters of the Universe is everything this ’80s kid wanted and more. It’s gloriously campy, wildly entertaining, and nonstop fun from beginning to end. Travis Knight completely understood the assignment and delivered exactly what fans of this franchise have been waiting for.”

Courtney Howard also had kind words for the project. “#MastersOfTheUniverse’s shaggy charms worked on me. A colossally epic time,” she wrote. “Has a GOTG-style, self-aware tone & a radical message at its core. Nicholas Galitzine & Camila Mendes nailed it.”

Nicholas Galitzine has the power

Our very own Rachel Leishman was in the house for Masters of the Universe this week. She had high praise for Nicholas Galitzine in this role. Very fun to think about Masters of the Universe surprising some folks!

“MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is a hell of a lot of fun. Nicholas Galitzine brings a sweetness to Adam Glenn that makes his take on He-Man memorable and also a fascinating take on masculinity,” Leishman said. “Fun, fun, fun and features The Man by The Killers so I was IN!”
