Woman gives California man her phone number. Then he proceeds to steal her Sephora points: ‘I just bought myself a nice little cologne’

A man just exposed himself on TikTok for taking a girl’s Sephora points. The audacious part? Commenters can’t even blame him for it; they didn’t expect him to know how to in the first place.
TikToker @inthecut1 posted a video with over 1.9 million views explaining how he purchased himself a new cologne. The secret, he told his audience, was that he used the Sephora points of a woman he just met to splurge on himself.
Commenters were baffled by the idea, as they had no idea a person could use and amass someone’s Sephora points if they had their number. Even Sephora’s TikTok account responded to the claim, leaving a comment about the man’s alleged transgression after he posted.
Can you really use someone else’s Sephora points?
There may be a lot of guides on the internet that show how a person can maximize their Sephora points, but unsurprisingly, there aren’t many about conning people out of their hard-earned rewards.
Sephora points are typically tied to a phone number or email, which gives an individual member access to them. When a person creates a member account, they can see their Sephora points tied to their phone number and login. But, they can also just give their phone number to a representative in-store when making purchases to access them.
Some viewers thought there were cracks in the man’s story. For instance, a few TikTokers claimed that Sephora only allows customers to get around $20 off for any individual purchase, roughly equal to 1,000 points. But other commenters directly refuted this. A regular shopper shared her experience having her points stolen, saying, “Someone went in and cashed in all 14k points of mine. Luckily Sephora gave them back.”
Commenters couldn’t seem to agree whether the story was plausible. One viewer, for instance, said, “He’s lying. That’s not how Sephora points work. I wish lol.” They were met with a number of replies arguing that it was.
How many Sephora points did this man allegedly spend?
Members generally earn one point for every dollar spent online or in-person at a Sephora store.
But there are ways to increase the total amount of Sephora points a person gets per purchase. Those with a Sephora credit card get double the amount of points per purchase. Very Important Beauty Insiders (VIBs) and Rogue membership status get increasing rewards. Then, some special events and promotions can boost point earnings by three or even four times.
The TikToker claimed that the girl he had met had “98,000 points,” which is actually a ridiculous amount of points to have. For context, a person would have to spend a little less than $8,170 every single month at Sephora to accumulate that point total in a year without any promotions or boosts. If they had a Sephora credit card, they would still need to spend a little less than $4,085. Then, if they only bought items during events or had any additional boosts, they’d still have to spend thousands on a regular basis.
There’s a likely chance then that the woman from whom the creator grabbed points had been saving her points for years, if not decades.
The man said he only spent around 20,000–30,000 of her Sephora points, but that’s still a ridiculous total by itself. That number of points is equal to anywhere between $5,000–$30,000 worth of purchases, depending on how she accumulated her points and how much he actually spent. When spent, 20,000–30,000 Sephora points boil down to around $400-600, roughly equal to one expensive cologne or perfume bottle. That’s one of the reasons why Sephora girls were so surprised and had their jaws dropped when seeing his video.
Commenters hate the game but not the player
Despite the man’s audacious and genuinely baffling confession, a few commenters said they couldn’t really blame him for “playing the game” and using the points. Commenters said that men were evolving and their strategies for messing with women were growing with them.
“Appreciate the game brotha,” one commenter said.
There were still commenters who considered the man’s confession downright criminal, though. “This is a villain story,” said one viewer. Then there were those humorously recommending that the woman call the FBI or police on him, considering the hard blow he made to her points.
