Man says his friend’s Bumble date came back out in a bathing suit at 55 degrees: ‘Everything up until that point told him, “Do not go. Stay away”’

He states it moved on to the Bronx Zoo for food, and the couple are still together two years later.

A man says his friend’s Bumble date was wearing Elmo pajamas with fuzzy blue slippers when he arrived to pick her up. According to the Daily Dot, the story comes from a TikTok video by the man. The creator states he shared it as a heads-up for men about what they may meet while dating.

He states the friend asked if the pajamas were her real plan and answered yes when she wondered about being too casual. She went inside and returned after 10 to 15 minutes in a one-piece swimsuit. The weather sat near 55 degrees, so the friend lowered his window to ask if she was joking. Her answer, he states, was “Don’t worry, I have shorts in my car.” Mismatched outfits have derailed first dates before, as with an Oregon woman told to dress comfortable.

Her look did not match his plan, so he asked for another idea. She suggested finger food, naming quesadillas and chicken fingers, and he told her he liked both. The creator adds that her choice was in the Bronx, a trip he puts at “an hour and 20 minutes away from where we live.” A drive to an unplanned stop has drawn attention before, as when a Florida man drove his Hinge date elsewhere.

She wanted the food, not the animals

The friend agreed to the drive, and only on arrival did he realize the destination was the Bronx Zoo. The creator recalls the friend telling her, “If you wanted to go to the zoo, you could have just told me you wanted to go to the zoo.” He recalls her answer that animals did not interest her much and she simply liked the food. By then, the friend suspected a prank, but they went in, ate and walked past some exhibits.

They left around 4 p.m., and because both had the day off, the friend floated a stop at a bar. She agreed, the creator states, but would only order a drink if a woman made it. The second bar also had a male bartender, so they skipped it, and she invited him over for drinks.

“Everything up until that point told him, ‘Do not go. Stay away.’ But for some reason, he still decided to go,” the creator stated. He teased that the rest of the night was “hysterical,” then added that the pair remain a couple two years on. All details come from his account in the video and could not be verified independently.

The zoo’s own dining page lists seven food locations, among them Dancing Crane Café, which it describes as open year round and serving “hot and cold dishes as well as snacks and beverages.” The page also notes that additional snack stands sit throughout the park.

Bumble advises users to “Pick a public location for your first meeting,” suggesting a coffee shop or restaurant, according to its safety guidance. Its Share Date feature lets users tell a friend or family member who they are meeting, where and when. The page also suggests keeping a first meeting brief and saving longer plans for later.
