Bethesda finally reveals The Elder Scrolls 6 title, and yes, the fan theories about Sentinel and Hammerfell were right

Hammerfell, you’re up. After eight years of radio silence, Bethesda has officially named its next mainline title — The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel. The studio confirmed the title on its official social accounts on November 3, alongside a new teaser trailer.
The teaser doesn’t give much away, but it’s atmospheric. An Elder Scroll rises out of the desert sand, set to the franchise’s sweeping music. The trailer ends with a quote from Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradine of Hammerfell, which confirms the setting. The quote hints at visions of a lost future and an undone victory, so lore nerds should expect to be busy for the next several weeks.
For perspective, the game was first announced at Bethesda’s E3 2018 showcase (eight years ago!) with a very brief CG teaser, and fans have been living on scraps ever since. A title and a location aren’t a feast, but we’ll take them.
What we know
The trailer shows the official title logo for the first time, and the focus on an Elder Scroll suggests the game will lean hard into series lore. Bethesda was also quick to manage expectations. In a follow-up post, the studio said development continues and that it will be some time before it shares more. That’s a polite way of saying not to expect a shadow drop next week. Unfortunately.
The rumors that panned out
This didn’t come out of nowhere. On October 29, The Verge’s Tom Warren reported that sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans said the game would be called The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel. Fans had already cracked the name back in August 2026, after the word turned up tucked away inside Starfield.
The same reporting claimed the game is set in Hammerfell and will be “the first game about the history of the Elder Scrolls,” helping uncover the secrets of those ancient artifacts. So far, that matches what the trailer shows.
What we’re still guessing at
There’s plenty left to speculate about. The Verge’s sources pointed to another possible reveal around Skyrim’s 15th anniversary on November 11, though Bethesda hasn’t confirmed any date. Hopes for a surprise release around the anniversary are still alive, but Bethesda’s own message cuts against them.
Platforms are another open question. Xbox recently surveyed players about exclusivity, so the game could end up an Xbox console exclusive, unlike Oblivion Remastered. That remains speculation. No release date or platforms have been announced.
So here’s where things stand. We have a name, a desert, and a very dramatic scroll. We don’t have a release date, a gameplay clip, or any idea whether we’ll be playing before the next console generation. Still, for a fanbase that has spent almost a decade refreshing the same threads, a confirmed title feels like a real win. Take one last adventure in your Skyrim files and start dusting off your Hammerfell lore.
