Los Angeles woman recounts her ‘public’ breakup with her therapist, mentions not getting a reaction, then googles her: ‘you’ve lived so many lives’

TikTok user @sophmosca has a crazy backstory about her former therapist, and it’s not what you might think. In a TikTok video she posted two days ago, Los Angeles-based social media personality Soph Mosca shares that at one point she saw a therapist she believed was very good. She emphasized in the video that, besides being skilled at her job, the therapist was also very beautiful and charismatic.

However, Soph then mentions that she went through a very public breakup with her former partner and tried to work through it in therapy with the same woman, but somehow she felt her therapist couldn’t quite understand what she was trying to say or where she was coming from. This led Soph to ‘break up’ with her. Not long after making that decision, she looked her up online and made the sickest discovery. It turns out her therapist knew a thing or two about public breakups.

TikTok user @sophmosca made the maddest discovery about her former therapist

As mentioned earlier, TikTok user @sophmosca posted a video two days ago explaining that she had to stop seeing her therapist because she felt the therapist couldn’t understand her situation, especially regarding her public breakup with an ex. In the video, she then reveals that she was curious about her therapist’s identity and tried to find her on Instagram. However, she discovered that her account was private, had around 20,000 followers, leading her to believe that it might have been hacked, bought, or possibly a bot account.

When Soph couldn’t find any information about her therapist on Instagram, she searched her name on Google and was surprised to learn that she was the ex-wife of professional golfer Tiger Woods. Referring to the issue she had with her therapist when she sought help with her public breakup, Soph said she believes that the therapist, despite having gone through a public breakup herself, “probably” did not want to give the impression that she was aware of such a situation.

People have a lot to say about @sophmosca’s story

@sophmosca’s TikTok video revealing that her former therapist was Tiger Wood’s ex-wife has gained significant momentum on the platform. As of now, the video has over 200,000 views and hundreds of comments. Most viewers were shocked by Soph’s story. User @atreyee wrote, “you’ve lived so many lives.” User @✧₊⁺jillianannebanks⁺₊✧ wrote, “sophia this is insane lore lol.”

A significant number of people also shared their opinions on Soph’s former therapist’s strategies. User @Whatever123 wrote, “I’m a therapist myself and in this instance, self disclosing probably would’ve been a more appropriate approach but I guess she probably didn’t want to distract you from what you were working on.” User @amberlynne.444, on the other hand, commented, “The sign of a great therapist!!! I’m in school to work along the lines of group counseling and am still learning how to not go, “ME TOO!” so that clients would feel understood in sharing an experience. Transference is something counselors have to be very conscious of.”

A lot of people in the United States are in therapy

A 2023 Statista study by Conor Stewart estimates that about 60 million U.S. adults received mental health services, including inpatient or outpatient care, counseling, or medication. Common reasons for seeking treatment included anxiety and depression.

According to the same source, in the U.S., it was noted that in the past year, women were nearly twice as likely as men to receive mental health treatment, with around 21% of adult women undergoing some form of treatment as of 2021. Younger adults aged 18 to 44 are more likely to seek counseling or therapy than older adults, although the latter are more inclined to use medication for mental health issues. Additionally, in terms of racial distribution, mental health treatment is significantly more prevalent among white adults compared to other racial and ethnic groups. In 2020, approximately 24.4% of white adults received mental health treatment, versus 15.3% of Black adults and 12.6% of Hispanics.
