“Silver Springs” Muse and Former Fleetwood Mac Member Lindsey Buckingham Attacked By Alleged Stalker

Legendary rock guitarist Lindsey Buckingham was attacked in Los Angeles on April 1, 2026, with law enforcement sources confirming the incident involved a suspected stalker. The 76-year-old musician, widely known for his tenure with Fleetwood Mac, was reportedly set upon by a woman as he arrived for an appointment in Santa Monica. According to Daily Mail, insiders say Buckingham was already aware of the woman from previous, troubling incidents.

Sources indicate that the woman hurled an unidentified substance at Buckingham as he entered a building, then quickly fled the scene. Thankfully, Buckingham was not injured in the assault. Law enforcement has identified a suspect, and an arrest is expected soon as both the Los Angeles and the Santa Monica Police Departments are actively investigating the case.

The LAPD confirmed that their Threat Management Unit is working with the Santa Monica Police Department, adding that no further comment would be provided at this time to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. It seems the woman had managed to find out the precise time and location of Buckingham’s appointment on Wednesday, making her way to the site with a clear intention.

Buckingham is no stranger to being stalked

This recent attack comes just over a year after Buckingham secured a permanent restraining order against a stalker named Michelle. While authorities haven’t publicly linked 53-year-old Michelle to this Wednesday’s assault, the pattern of harassment is certainly alarming. This prior legal action highlights a disturbing history of unwanted attention and threats that Buckingham and his family have endured.

At a hearing in December 2024, Buckingham provided compelling evidence, including a picture Michelle had taken outside his home and an “unmarked audio clip.” This was crucial in the decision to extend a previous temporary restraining order, granting Buckingham five years of protection from her. It mandates that she stay at least 100 yards away from Buckingham, his wife, and son, William, and is strictly prohibited from threatening, harassing, or contacting them.

Buckingham’s court testimony detailed a harrowing series of events. He recounted how Michelle allegedly obtained his wife Kristen’s business phone number in 2021 and began making persistent calls. These calls, he stated, included “long drawn-out messages that included the claim that she was my child and threats to kill me and my family.”

Buckingham emphatically testified that he was not Michelle’s father and did not know her personally at all. He also alleged that the stalker “blamed me for facial deformities she apparently suffered as a child and demanded money,” adding another layer of deeply concerning claims to the situation.

Things took another scary turn in 2024

According to Buckingham’s account, police had initially instructed Michelle to cease contacting his family back in 2022, and he had hoped the matter was resolved. However, the harassment reportedly resumed in 2024 when she left a disturbing collage outside his house, featuring photos of her face mingled with pictures of his.

The situation escalated dramatically when, weeks later, police arrived at Buckingham’s home in the middle of the night. He testified that he was woken, handcuffed, and brought outside based on a 911 call. The emergency services had reportedly been warned that William, 27, was at the house intending to hurt himself, and that “the caller had heard gunshots.”

Police then searched the property for 20 minutes before discovering it was a false alarm and uncuffing Buckingham. He maintained in his December 20, 2024, hearing that he later learned the 911 call was traced directly to Michelle’s phone, confirming it as “the latest in an unabated pattern of harassment and threatening acts against my family and me.”

Beyond these personal struggles, Buckingham’s career has been nothing short of legendary

Born in California’s Bay Area in 1949, he joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975, famously bringing his then-lover Stevie Nicks into the fold with him. Their tempestuous personal and professional relationship became the very heart of the band’s most iconic era, often referred to as their “belle epoque.”

One of the most poignant examples of this enduring connection is the ballad Silver Springs. Stevie Nicks originally penned this track for the album Rumours, inspired by the end of her relationship with Buckingham. She saw a highway sign for Silver Springs, Maryland, and envisioned it as a symbol of the stable, idyllic life and deep partnership they might have had.

Though it was initially cut from the album and released as a B-side to Buckingham’s own Go Your Own Way, Silver Springs gained mythic status, particularly after its incredibly emotional 1997 live performance on The Dance. During that performance, Nicks delivered a raw, intense rendition while locking eyes with Buckingham, transforming the song into a powerful expression of lingering regret, defiance, and unresolved attachment.

Buckingham’s journey with Fleetwood Mac was far from smooth, marked by intense personal conflicts that led to his explosive departure in 1987. He eventually returned to the group a decade later, touring with them worldwide, only to be fired in 2018 following another breakdown in his professional relationship with Nicks. Despite the roller coaster, his musical genius has left an indelible mark on rock history.
