Kurt Russell and Tina Fey Act Out Classic Scene From Empire Strikes Back

Some of you may not know this, but Kurt Russell actually did audition for Star Wars back in the day. On The Graham Norton Show, he admitted that he not only read for the part of Han Solo, but for Luke Skywalker as well–and when George Lucas told Russell he wasn’t sure he was going to be casting him in the film, Russell said he started looking at other projects. (You can still watch footage from his auditions on YouTube, mostly of scenes where he was reading as Han.)

Tina Fey, on the other hand, has been perfectly clear about her Star Wars love as a fan first and foremost–but we also remember Liz Lemon doing some pretty great Leia cosplay on 30 Rock. And so, in that vein, Russell and Fey were asked to recreate one of the most famous Han/Leia scenes from Empire Strikes Back:

Can you picture this version of Star Wars happening? I honestly think Kurt Russell could have brought an interesting interpretation to the character of Han Solo, but clearly things worked out the way they did for a reason–and he doesn’t seem to have any hard feelings about essentially turning down Star Wars.
