Using what clearly qualifies as one of the best disguises ever, three to four thieves dressed up as knights and armed themselves with swords and axes in order to rob the organizers of a medieval festival to the tune of $25,000. Though they blended in with other faire goers, apparently these guys were unconcerned with the whole knighthood entailing chivalry bit.

The theft took place in the early hours of Monday as organizers were counting revenues from the festival in Bitche, a commune located near France’s border with Germany. The rotten bunch bashed one of the festival organizers in the head with the handle of an axe and escaped with the cash. The regional police in Lorraine have opened an investigation and are interviewing witnesses.

The targeted faire, the “Medievales Europeennes de Bitche,” is one of France’s largest festivals of medieval and renaissance culture, and was attended by more than 11,000 people last year.

While we obviously don’t condone pillaging, we have to applaud these guys on their disguise — honestly, it’s so obvious but that’s what makes it so brilliant! Hopefully the police will find and detain them, lest a Robin Hood cosplayer or band of honorable knights feel compelled to step in and bring them to justice.
