Kayce Dutton is heading back to the ranch in a ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off

Or not the ranch EXACTLY

If you finished Yellowstone and wanted more of the Dutton family, you’re in luck! The latest spin-off in Taylor Sheridan’s western universe is bringing a fan favorite member of the Dutton family into his own series.

Luke Grimes is set to return as Kayce Dutton in a new series called Y: Marshals, set after the series finale of Yellowstone. The series logline states that the show will feature Kayce “combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

This news makes sense given how Yellowstone came to an end. The series wrapped with the Dutton family ranch getting sold to Rainwater and his tribe for the same price that James Dutton (Tim McGraw) bought it for in the spin-off series 1883. Kayce, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), and their son Tate (Brecken Merrill) were allowed to live on the land in their home they built. Whether the series will feature the family still living on the land of the ranch, we do not know.

Kayce was, in the flagship series, the youngest Dutton and he’d often find himself in the midst of the action for his father, John (Kevin Costner). Even when Jamie (Wes Bentley) went rogue against the family, Kayce still stuck to what he was good at and what he knew how to do. Kayce didn’t get in the middle of Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Jamie’s relationship and so it will be interesting to see how the character works on his own show.

Until we know more, at least there is more Yellowstone on the horizon with the spin-off series and the continuation of Sheridan’s universe.
