Journalist obliterates Trump, stresses his bombing of Iran is part of a Republican trend after they assume office

Broadcaster and journalist Mehdi Hasan has been one of the most vocal critics of Donald Trump in the past couple of years. However, since Trump began his second term last year, and in response to his recent actions both in the U.S. and abroad, Hasan’s contempt for him has increased manifold.

Mehdi Hasan has become viral on the internet once again due to what he is saying about Donald Trump and his activities in Iran, and he isn’t wrong. For those unfamiliar, on February 28, 2026, the US and Israel joined forces to launch an attack on Iran, leading to the eventual death of the country’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. Hasan, while addressing the event, highlighted that Trump wasn’t behaving in an unfamiliar manner with respect to his proceedings in Iran, as it was straight out of the Republican leaders’ handbook, one being that they would bomb a Middle Eastern country after assuming office.

Mehdi Hasan says Trump is following the Republican trend

During a recent interview session on Zeteo, videos of which have been extensively shared on social media, including X (formerly Twitter), Mehdi Hasan is alleging that Donald Trump bombing Iran is not out of the ordinary, as several Republican leaders before him have done something similar.

Giving the examples of Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr., and George Bush Jr., Hasan said, “Every Republican president does this. Comes to office, cuts benefits for the poor, cuts taxes for the rich, raises prices, then bombs a Middle East country.”

Mehdi Hasan accuses Trump of falsely running on “peace” during the elections

While noting how Trump is going about waging wars on foreign countries, Mehdi Hasan, during his recent interview, highlighted how, during the 2024 elections, he had run mainly on the promise that he would no longer lead the US into wars. Not just him, his Republican co-workers, including JD Vance, Stephen Miller, and others, had also made similar false promises.

But in 2026, Trump has gotten the US involved in the matters of at least two countries: Venezuela and Iran. The irony is that these people warned against voting for Kamala Harris, saying that she would lead the country into war. However, she was one of the first people to express concerns over the US joining forces with Israel and attacking Iran from a very “America first” perspective. Talking about the irony of Trump having an anti-war position during the elections and going completely the opposite way after becoming president, Hasan stated, “It was all a lie.”
