Shrinkflation, the phenomenon where customers pay more while getting less product, is pretty much unavoidable by now.

Customers have reported it hitting Mars bars, Cheesecake Factory cheesecake, nacho chips, and more.

A recent target for shrinkflation accusations is also Jersey Mike’s, the beloved sub sandwich restaurant.

For example, one customer previously complained that their sub featured a lot fewer ingredients than before, even claiming that an employee confessed they had received directives from their manager to use less but charge the same.

Now, another customer says the sandwiches themselves have gotten smaller.

What Happened At This Jersey Mike’s?

In a video that got over 139,000 views, TikTok creator Chenny Britt (@chennybritt) says he’s officially giving up on Jersey Mike’s after getting a sandwich at a New York City location.

“I am officially done with Jersey Mike’s,” Britt says. “Retiring Jersey Mike’s, never going back there again. This is absolutely ridiculous.”

He then starts filming the sandwich, which has already been cut in half.

“I went and got a regular sub and I thought when they were preparing it that they must have gotten my order wrong cause it looked like a mini,” he says. “But this is now $13.”

Then, to demonstrate just how small he thinks the sandwich has gotten, Britt places a large coffee cup next to it for comparison.

“For reference, this is a large coffee,” he says. “So the sub is smaller than a large coffee.”

“This is just [expletive] crazy, man,” he adds.

Has Jersey Mike’s Subs Really Gotten Smaller?

Britt isn’t the only customer who thinks Jersey Mike’s sandwiches have gotten smaller or started containing fewer ingredients.

On Reddit, one customer recently asked whether the fast-food joint regular subs had shrunk after the chain was acquired by Blackstone. They said a regular sub they ordered seemed noticeably smaller than the same size they remembered getting before the acquisition.

However, not everyone agreed.

Several customers said they had recently visited Jersey Mike’s and noticed no difference whatsoever.

Meanwhile, a self-identified Jersey Mike’s worker said the chain hasn’t reduced the size of its sandwiches. Instead, they said an unusually small sub could result from the bread not being proofed or stretched correctly. Another possibility, according to the worker, is that an employee simply cut the loaf unevenly when dividing it into regular subs.

The worker also argued that intentionally shrinking the sandwiches would require stores to replace their bread forms, which they said can cost around $1,100 per set. In their experience, stores already struggle to get replacement forms even when the old ones start falling apart.

Commenters Agree With The TikToker

Several viewers said they’d noticed the same thing Britt was complaining about.

“Finally someone brought it up,” one commenter wrote.

Another blamed Jersey Mike’s ownership. “Private equity ruins everything,” they wrote.

Meanwhile, another viewer argued that the problem goes far beyond one sandwich chain. “It’s everywhere now , low quality food for insanely high prices,” they wrote.
