‘It’s a Boys’ Club:’ Marjorie Taylor Greene Claims Women Aren’t ‘Respected in the Republican Party,’ Blames Low Support on Ignoring Women
From a supporter to a critic, the journey has been a long one
Former United States Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene seems intent on revealing what used to happen behind closed doors in the party she once represented. Since voluntarily retiring from her position in January this year, Greene has said several controversial things about the Republican Party and the MAGA movement.
One of the things Greene has spoken about pertains to women not being taken seriously and not given leadership positions in the Republican Party. Back in December, while she was still in office, Greene, during an interaction on CNN’s “The Situation Room,” accused the Republican Party, especially Speaker Mike Johnson, of not giving importance to what the women of the party have to say.
She said at the time, “It is extremely frustrating as a rank-and-file Republican member and in our majority, our Republican majority, that many of us women are not taken seriously, and our legislation is not taken seriously.” Now, several months later, it appears Greene hasn’t changed her stance on this much, as she is accusing the Party once again of doing the same thing.
Appearing on Firing Line With Margaret Hoover on PBS on August 28, 2026, Greene said she does not think women are given their due credit in the Republican Party. When Hoover asked if women were respected in the MAGA movement, Greene’s exact words were: “I don’t think women are respected in the Republican Party. It’s a boys’ club. It literally is, and that comes from the top down, and it’s really a shame.”
Greene also spoke about how the Republican Party’s lack of respect for women in this aspect and otherwise was hampering their chances of gaining the faith of women who no longer want to vote for them. “Many Republican state legislatures, they never want to give women leadership roles, and it’s to their own demise because guess what? A lot of women don’t want to vote for Republicans… They just want to hold the power themselves… I think the Republican Party’s suffering for it and will continue to suffer.”
Greene also spoke about Trump demeaning women and setting an example for others
During the same interview, Greene turned to Trump’s treatment of women more broadly. She said, “…You have the president demeaning women constantly. He’s constantly attacking women. And it’s something that I think women are so tired of.”
Greene also focused on how he has attacked singer songwriter Taylor Swift previously without provocation. She said, “When the president is attacking, say like Taylor Swift, for example, one of the most popular pop stars who young women absolutely love, and he as the president is attacking her for absolutely no reason, that’s a message you’re telling women, and it’s a horrible message.”
Another example of Trump disrespecting women is when he attempted to shut down a female reporter by saying“quite piggy,” which united his critics and supporters in condemnation.
