Iowa Woman Had Her Number Asked in a Bar. Then The Man Turned to His Table: ‘You Owe Me $50’

In a world where people can exercise their free will, some use it not to uplift, but to insult others. Emmy (@diaryofemmym), a plus-sized woman from Florida, shared an incident that recently experienced. When one man approached her at the bar, she thought it was a complimentary gesture.
“This took place on my birthday, of all days,” Emmy told TikTok. She claimed that she was the “big friend” of the group.
“I’m out at a bar with friends. Life is good, I’m feeling good,” Emmy recalled. She also stated that she lost 40-50 pounds at the time, which gave her a surge of confidence. There was a table of boys next to theirs, and they could overhear them talk.
“It’s obvious that they’re looking at us and talking about us, or somebody at our table.” There were signs that perhaps one of them was interested in the women. In some cases, they would even be interested in asking for the girl’s number. As long as they aren’t like this married man who tried asking for a bartender’s number, there shouldn’t be an issue.
“This guy comes over to our table, and he immediately comes to my side of the table,” Emmy said. The man supposedly proceeded to touch her shoulder. At first, she was put off—wary of the stranger who had suddenly started talking to her.
Then, the man started asking her personal questions—her name, how old she is, what she did for work. Essentially, it seemed as though he was interested in getting to know her.
“Can I get your number?” The man asked, and Emmy hesitated. She found the situation unusual, saying that she hasn’t been approached for her number before. But her friends started cheering her on, telling her to accept his number.
A casual bar encounter ended a cruel twist
Despite her initial unease, she decided to give the man her number anyway. While giving her number, the man stops and turns to his table.
“You guys owe me $50,” the man supposedly said. After which, he and his friends allegedly started laughing. Shortly thereafter, the man apparently walked back to his table without her number.
“I told you fat [expletive] are easy,” one of the friends supposedly said of Emmy.
“That was super good for my confidence,” Emmy sarcastically remarked at the memory. To make matters worse, Emmy also said that her friends did not defend her after the harsh encounter with the man.
In a follow-up video, Emmy stated that she no longer speaks to the friends that accompanied her to the bar. One of them had also gone home with one of the man’s friends. Emmy’s initial TikTok went viral, and her former friend sent the video to the man who had offended her.
Emmy said that the man had messaged her, apologizing for his actions. He allegedly admitted that what he’d done was childish and made the excuse that he was drinking at the time. Then, he proceeded to ask Emmy out for dinner, to which she declined.
“As somebody that used to be thin, and now would be considered not thin, it’s been extremely difficult,” Emmy stated. She further explained that she has Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS). One of the condition’s symptoms is weight gain, but Emmy also said that she “has the power to change” her situation.
She gets support from TikTok
Social media users weighed in, with many of them writing in support of Emmy.
One commenter wrote, “Girl, I’m bored let’s get some new friends.” Others left supportive comments, saying that if they were with Emmy, they would have caused “a scene” for their friend.
Another social media user wrote, “Drunk words are sober thoughts.” Although the man apologized, many were still frustrated by his actions.
“I love who I am. I believe that I am a beautiful person inside and out,” Emmy stated despite the negative interaction. She proceeded to thank the outpouring of support from commenters on social media.
