Indiana Woman Goes to Taco Bell During a Tornado and Gets Refused. Then She Rants Online and People Have Questions: ‘Why She’s Craving Burritos’

An Indiana woman is under fire after taking to TikTok to complain about Taco Bell being closed due to a tornado watch. In a since-deleted video, user Michaela Heiny says that she went to a Taco Bell but was refused service because they had stopped taking orders for the safety of their employees. “You’re Taco Bell,” she can be heard saying in the video.

Though the original video has since been deleted, countless stitches remain. One of the most popular comes from user daadisnacks, who has built up a following of over 1.2 million on the platform for making videos mocking controversies by stitching the video and saying “Oh my God, you guys” in an imitation of the “influencer voice.”

In his video for the Taco Bell incident he also adds that Michaela preemptively blocked him once people began tagging him in her video.

An online debate over entitlement sprung up over this issue. Said one user in the comments, “WHAT DOES THAT ACTUALLY MEAN!?!?”

Another commented, “God forbid a company cares for the safety of its employees.”

Why is this video controversial?

A place like Taco Bell refusing orders because of a potentially dangerous situation is actually a pretty big deal. It shows that this particular location cares about the safety of its employees. And if the weather is bad, why are you going out and getting fast food anyway?

That question circles the situation back around to entitlement. Sure, you can less cautious. But that does not mean you should endanger others in the process. “It’s just a watch” could quickly turn into a warning with how volatile the circumstances that go into creating a tornado are.

Michaela doubles down in recent video

After deleting her original video, Michaela took to TikTok to further explain herself. Immediately she says that she knows the video won’t make a difference, because “the narrative is already out there.” Right out of the gate she is lacking accountability.

Throughout the video she prefaces her side of things with the phrase “For those who know me.” She disputes the things people have called her, like tone deaf, and says that it was a video “12 friends were supposed to see.”

Indeed, if you only wanted your friends to see it, wouldn’t you record a video on your phone and send it to them? We don’t always expect our videos to go viral, but when you put it online the potential is always there. Hopefully Michaela thinks twice in the future about what she posts online.
