Hell Yes We Want to Be the Doctor’s New Best Friends After This New Trailer

When it was announced that Doctor Who would take on its first female Doctor, reaction was mixed because we apparently can’t have nice things. It’s 2018 and the times, they certainly are a-changing, and all of the promotional work for Jodie Whittaker’s take on the Thirteenth Doctor has only served to get us more excited about what’s to come with the series.

With a press conference at San Diego Comic-Con, fans were gifted with their first real look at Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor in action!

This trailer does one of two things: 1. It shows us her full costume in action, which is actually the costume from the pictures (unlike eleventh Doctor Matt Smith’s pictures), and 2. It helps set the tone for how Jodie’s season is going to be. A real fear many fans, specifically women, had about this season was how they’d address the Doctor being a woman in the show.

The true brilliance would come from the Doctor not even batting an eye. For so often, he just accepted his change in appearance and moved on. With Jodie, it is a bit more of a drastic change, but still, the hope is that the Doctor’s only concern is whether or not they’re finally a ginger.

Starting the season off in true Doctor fashion, we can see from the trailer that she will be still wearing Peter Capaldi’s clothing from his regeneration scene. There isn’t a lot to get from the trailer other than showing us Jodie’s costume and a bit of the dynamic between her rendition of the Doctor and her companions.

With a new showrunner and a new Doctor, there is going to be quite a shift in tone and dynamic, but one that is clearly going to be worth watching. Along with her new companions Yasmin (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole), and Graham (Bradley Walsh), the Thirteenth Doctor hits all of time and space this coming autumn on BBC One and BBC America.
