Anakin and Obi-Wan in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Happy Birthday to Revenge of the Sith. You Still Rule.

This is a love story. One between me and Revenge of the Sith. I was 13 years old when Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith hit theaters and a prime age to be in love with Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor. So for an entire summer, I watched this movie over and over and over again to the point where it is so ingrained in my mind that I can quote the entire movie from memory. I’m not ashamed of this fact.

Whether it is screaming “I HAVE BROUGHT PEACE, FREEDOM, JUSTICE, AND SECURITY TO MY NEW EMPIRE” and following it up with “YOUR NEW EMPIRE? ANAKIN, MY ALLEGIANCE IS TO THE REPUBLIC. TO DEMOCRACY,” or crying about the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan that was destroyed by his pull to the dark side, there’s just something about this movie that is the best out of the prequels and maybe one of the best Star Wars movies in general.

So today, let’s celebrate it in whatever way you want. For me, I loved this movie because I was a teenage girl. I’m strong enough to admit that. To be honest, it’s how I still love a lot of Star Wars. I want to marry Din Djarin from The Mandalorian, just to put that into perspective for you. So when my friends and I discovered Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor, my mother let the movie theater babysit me over summer vacation.

But, to get nerdy for a second, Revenge of the Sith is a beautiful precursor for the battle we see in A New Hope. Anakin and Obi-Wan are essentially family and the “betrayal” that happens with Anakin going to the Dark Side because of Palpatine is something that we’re thrown into with A New Hope, and this was us finally getting to see how their relationship fell apart.

Sure, the rest of the movie exists and is great. (Maybe not Anakin murdering the Younglings while Grogu just like hides out somewhere but you get my point.) But the moment that really takes Revenge of the Sith to the next level is the final battle between the two Jedi.

“You were my BROTHER, Anakin,” will forever live in my mind and I don’t know that I can ever watch this movie and not quote the final battle but like … can you blame me? It’s perfect. We all start quoting it and just keep going and going because Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen left us with a lasting friendship and relationship we love to come back to time and time again.

So thank you, Revenge of the Sith. I have seen you far too many times. I can quote you, I love you, and you’re the reason I cannot stop thinking about Obi-Wan Kenobi and the reunion of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen.

Anyway, thanks for this.
