Gotham‘s Season Two Trailer Teases the Joker

Remember Jerome?

Although it didn’t initially sound like the character of Jerome on Gotham had a planned “grow up to be the Joker” arc, this Season Two trailer sure does make him look Joker-inspired. Jerome appears several times in the trailer, wearing a cop disguise and laughing maniacally; the trailer concludes with a couple other shady types telling the young boy that they enjoy his signature laugh. Jerome’s back-story never quite lined up with any known canon for the Joker, but then again, neither has the rest of Gotham.

Speaking of ignoring the comics’ canon, Ben McKenzie (Gotham‘s Jim Gordon) recently shared some insight about the show’s world, specifically addressing why Superman doesn’t exist in Gotham‘s universe:

Nobody actually has super powers in our world. There’s gravity. People can’t fly, they can’t see through walls, they can’t do things like that. It’s important that when you create a world, you have rules.

So … the world of Gotham is nothing like the actual DC universe, then? Yeah, that sounds like the Gotham that I know. It’s an alternate universe, Muppet Babies-esque spin-off on Batman. Complete with a baby Joker.
