Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Is “More Emotional,” Focuses on Dad Jokes Feelings, Finally Has a Title

Loose lips sink spaceships.

We already heard that the script for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 made Chris Pratt cry, but James Gunn has opened up a bit about the sequel, and Kevin Feige’s uncharacteristically loose lips might have revealed its title.

Confirming those sad, sad Pratt tears in an interview with Collider at the 41st Annual Saturn Awards, Gunn said of GotG 2,

I think it’s going to be exciting I think it’s a more emotional movie. It’s both a bigger movie and a smaller movie, because we focus more intensely on some of the characters. We get to learn a lot about fathers in the second movie, and I think we focus a lot on that.

Of course, we knew the movie would have to do with Star Lord’s father after the tease at the end of the first one, but “a lot about fathers” is an interesting statement —if not wholly original what with the ubiquity of paternal narratives and all. Although, I’d also be totally in for an entire movie about Drax raising baby Groot as his own and their wacky adventures, so … But anyway, it sounds like Star Lord isn’t the only character whose backstory will get some attention in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Oh, whoops? Did I say that out loud? Erm, I mean, part 2? Yeah, see, you’re not buying that as an innocent mistake right? Neither am I, as Collider also reported that, while doing press for Ant-Man, Marvel’s Kevin Feige said, “We start shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 in February-March 2016.”

James Gunn has reportedly been more worried about putting together Awesome Mix Vol. 2 to set the perfect tone for the sequel than the movie itself, and that title would certainly fit right in. … In my opinion, anyway. What about you?

[UPDATE]

It’s officially official!
