Server stays late to serve party of 11. Then the ‘ring leader’ makes a request that takes everyone aback: ‘If you could just sit tight’

A waitress working at a Mexican restaurant server a party of 11 who stayed longer than expected. Then someone in her group asked her manager something shocking.
TikToker Marianne Faith Rojas (@its.marianne.faith) posted a video that received more than 3.5 million views where she recalled a situation from when she worked in the restaurant industry. The content creator said that the ‘ring leader’ of her group of 11 asked staff to stop cleaning so that he and other guests could finish their conversations at their table. By the time they asked this, the restaurant had already been closed for five minutes.
Eventually, though, Rojas’s manager made her walk up to the table and let them know they needed to continue cleaning. The encounter led to a police altercation, as the group physically attacked members of management and staff before being forcibly removed.
An Overstayed Welcome
Rojas described an incident that happened about “five years ago.” At the time, she was working at a Mexican restaurant.
During one shift, she had a table of 11 who were staying longer than expected. Other servers had already cleared their tables and said goodbye to their guests. But, the content creator’s lingering table wasn’t budging.
It was five minutes past closing time, so other staff started cleaning and getting ready to go home. A few of her co-workers started cleaning and vacuuming around the guests. That’s when one of the members of the table approached her manager.
“He comes up to the manager and says, ‘Hey, when do y’all quit serving?’ And she said, ‘Well, we closed about five minutes ago, so five minutes ago. Is there something I could get you?’ And he says, ‘No, we’re just trying to finish our conversation, so we’d appreciate it if you waited to use the vacuum until we were done.’”
The party of 11 proceeded to “camp,” at the restaurant, which kept everyone from going home. After about 30 minutes of waiting for them to vacate, management realized they had no intention of rushing out the door. Eventually, Rojas’s manager told her to approach and let them know staff needed to start cleaning in order to go home.
An Altercation
Rojas went up to her lingering table and let them know that the staff needed to start cleaning. She let them know as kindly as possible that they weren’t asking them to leave, but they did need to finish up their work.
Instead of taking the hint, a man immediately stood up from the table. He asked Rojas what was going on and “stood on her toes,” inches away from her. Then he started cursing her out in the middle of the restaurant.
The woman’s manager quickly stepped in and told the guests that they needed to leave. The guests then started a physical altercation, which the content creator described: “ They’re just pulling on us, like pulling our hair and pulling our arms down and, and grabbing our faces and yelling at us and calling us names, and it was, it was just really weird.”
The restaurant had to call the cops. Afterward, Rojas learned that the group was friends with the restaurant owners and that at least two guests were arrested for threatening to brandish a knife.
Commenters Weigh In
Commenters on Rojas’s post largely saw the TikToker’s perspective on the situation. They agreed that the physical altercation was genuinely harrowing. One commenter said, “THEY PUT HANDS ON YOU?! I cannot imagine ever being this cruel to someone else.”
Subsequently, a TikTok repost of Rojas’s video received more divided opinions. Some viewers who saw the repost said that the customers should have left earlier, while others argued that restaurant management should have communicated better with the guests.
Another viewer, who disagreed with the restaurant’s response, criticized the move to vacuum next to them after seeing the repost. “You are very wrong in this,” they said. “You should never start vacuuming until the last customer leaves. That’s very rude of this restaurant.”
Nearly 60 percent of restaurant employees report experiencing a form of emotional abuse or disrespect from customers. The debate as to whether customers can stay after hours still seems to be up for contention. Many TikTokers and social media sleuths blame management for not setting boundaries with guests, while others say customers need to be aware and not inconvenience staff.
