Florida man allegedly punches woman at grandmother’s birthday party. Then her daughter pulls out an M4 rifle and shoots him in the groin

A family dispute that turned messy.

A family in Florida celebrating the birthday of their grandmother turned into chaos when a dispute between relatives allegedly turned physical. The situation devolved even further when one of the women at the party allegedly whipped out an assault rifle and directed a shot towards a man’s groin.

Florida City Police Department received a report of a shooting at a home on Northwest 16th Street in Florida City, near Miami, at around 2:30am on Saturday, according to Local 10 News. Officers arrived to find 46-year-old Frankie King with a gunshot wound to his groin area and administered emergency first aid until he was transported to Jackson South Medical Center by airlift by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, authorities said.

Officers arrested 28-year-old Jaquasha Dean as a suspect in the shooting and read her Miranda rights. According to the arrest report, the incident began when King got into a heated argument with his mother, Kimberly Spell, during the party. Spell told investigators that King left the house after the argument became physical.

The altercation was witnessed by Dean’s mother, Selena Foster, who approached King to admonish him for hitting his own mother. Foster alleged that King then came up to her and punched her in the nose.

Investigators, however, noted that Foster, who declined to receive medical attention, didn’t have any visible injuries from the alleged punch. She also refused to press any charges against King, stating the dispute was a family matter.

At the same time, Dean decided to leave the birthday party and was in the middle of placing a speaker inside the trunk of her vehicle when she witnessed King punch her mother, Dean said, according to the authorities. Dean claimed King began walking towards her when she allegedly pulled out an M4 rifle from her trunk and “racked the charging mechanism twice,” which caused two live rounds to fall on the asphalt.

Dean said she had warned King to take a “step back,” only for the warning to fall on deaf ears. She later fired off a single shot, hitting King in the groin area, according to the report.

Dean was taken to Miami-Dade County Jail, where she is being held without bond. She is now facing an attempted murder charge and is set to appear before a judge on Thursday.

Meanwhile, if an individual is found guilty of second-degree attempted murder, they may be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison, 15 years of probation, or receive a fine of up to $10,000. First-degree attempted murder, on the other hand, may result in a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
