Prime have produced some truly bingable shows in recent years, and now there’s another addictive series to add to the list: Every Year After.

The romantic drama is making waves thanks to its snappy dialogue, great performances, and gorgeous representation of love and heartbreak. Social media has been abuzz with positive responses to the show, which is fast becoming a runaway hit.

Every Year After follows Persephone “Percy” Fraser (Sadie Soverall) as she is dragged back from her life in the big city to her hometown, the lakeside Barry’s Bay. She’s back for just one weekend to attend a funeral, where she reconnects with her childhood best friend and first love Sam (Matt Cornett). Although the relationship ended in tears, the pair still have an impossible to ignore connection, but will they be able to get over their past mistakes?

A majority of the show takes place over a single weekend, when the main characters are adults. However, there are plenty of flashback scenes from various childhood summers that showcase the relationship as it was flowering, giving viewers a glimpse into Percy and Sam’s complicated past, and how came to be in their respective situations. There’s also plenty of additional drama for viewers to latch onto, whether its the schemings of Sam’s older brother Charlie (Michael Bradway), or Percy’s strained relationship with Abigail (Abigail Cowen).

Fans have praised the great performances and brilliant characterization, which shows the protagonist Percy in an honest yet occasionally unflattering light. With that said the show is very much for comfort viewing, and is easy to spend a few hours consuming. The cast is also incredibly likeable and have great chemistry, only adding to the show’s bingability.

While fans of the book will notice a few big differences between the show and the novel, generally the plot will be familiar to them. And author Fortune’s sales are sure to see a big bump as fans look for more content to devour.
