‘I Think That’s My Food’: DoorDash Customer Retrieves His Order From His Driver’s Crash Scene, Then Helps Raise Nearly $16,000 for Him
Dinner was still on the menu, even with the delivery car out of commission.
A DoorDash delivery usually ends with food arriving at somebody’s front door. One Maryland customer instead found himself heading toward flashing emergency lights because his dinner was apparently waiting at the scene of his delivery driver’s car crash.
Glenn Ndibnu documented the bizarre pickup in a video after his DoorDash driver, William Koroma, was involved in a crash in Bowie, Maryland. According to BroBible, Koroma told Ndibnu that he could come meet him and retrieve his food despite the relatively more pressing problem of his wrecked car.
Ndibnu apparently didn’t realize how serious the accident was until he arrived. Once he saw the damaged vehicle, dashing onto the scene to collect dinner suddenly felt less straightforward.
The DoorDash Order Somehow Survived the Crash
“I think that’s my food right there,” Ndibnu said while filming the scene. He then confronted the question most food delivery apps probably don’t cover in their FAQs: “Is it f**ked up for me to walk across and pick it up?”
Ndibnu decided to retrieve the order, although he was painfully aware of the optics. “I look so f**ked up right now, about to go get this food,” he admitted before crossing over.
The customer repeatedly called himself “trifling” as he approached the crash scene, but his first interaction with Koroma wasn’t about whether the fries had survived. Ndibnu asked the driver whether he was alright before taking the order and apologizing for what had happened.
“Damn, I’m so sorry, bro,” he told Koroma. “You got in an accident bringing me my food.”
DoorDash pickups have taken some strange detours before. One driver even accepted an order and discovered she was picking up a tire from Discount Tire, although this delivery took “unexpected pickup” to new levels of confusion.
The Awkward Food Pickup Had an Unexpectedly Wholesome Aftermath
The story didn’t end with Ndibnu simply walking away with his dinner. After his original video went viral and attracted millions of views, Ndibnu said so many people wanted to help Koroma that a GoFundMe was set up for him.
On the GoFundMe page, Koroma explained that he had been making his final delivery of the night on Church Road when his vehicle experienced brake failure. He said his car was totaled in the crash and expressed gratitude that he survived and nobody else was seriously injured. He also wrote that losing his vehicle had left him without reliable transportation and that he had also lost his job. He said he was struggling with everyday expenses while facing medical costs related to the accident.
A working vehicle can obviously be make-or-break for delivery drivers. Another DoorDasher said she could no longer make deliveries after an angry customer followed her home and smashed her car with a brick. She later started her own GoFundMe to cover the damage.
Ndibnu subsequently promoted the fundraiser to the audience that had discovered Koroma through the original video. According to BroBible, the campaign was approaching its $16,000 goal at the time of publication. The most recent update on Instagram states that the DoorDasher is back on the road in his new vehicle.
So yes, walking up to a crash scene to retrieve your DoorDash order might initially look like a masterclass in questionable priorities. In this case, however, the viral incident helped turn one remarkably awkward food pickup into an unlikely delivery of kindness.
