‘Don’t Let Your Boyfriend or Fiancé Play It’: A Florida Woman Reacted to GTA 6’s Gameplay, Then Banned Her Fiancé From Ever Playing It

A Florida woman went viral after declaring her fiancé won’t be allowed to play Grand Theft Auto 6 once it releases. According to BroBible, TikToker Shelby Haas said in a video with over 5 million views that the game’s relationship mechanics crossed a line for her.
“In absolutely no human way is my fiancé playing GTA 6 after I just saw that you literally have to maintain a relationship with a girl in the video game and text her, and she’ll get mad if you don’t text her back and you have to take her on dates,” she said. She went on to cite the game’s strip club and nudist community content as additional concerns. “Don’t let your boyfriend or fiancé or husband play GTA 6,” she said.
Haas isn’t alone in her reservations. A separate post on Reddit’s r/Advice described a girlfriend who threatened to end the relationship if her boyfriend played the game, calling it “sleazy” and something that “promotes crime and sex.”
What GTA 6 Actually Includes
The concerns center on real features Rockstar Games has confirmed for the title. GTA 6 is set for release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and carries an ESRB Mature 17+ rating, with content descriptors covering strong sexual content, nudity, intense violence, and strong language. The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, a stand-in for modern Florida built around a returning Vice City, and follows dual protagonists Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, a criminal couple whose relationship drives the story after a heist goes wrong.
Rockstar has actually addressed this exact concern directly. A developer told TechRadar the romance between Jason and Lucia is entirely optional, saying, “It’s not something that we want to foist upon players,” and that the mechanic exists to let players opt in or out of an emotional storyline rather than requiring it. Players who do choose to pursue the relationship can go on dates like kayaking or mini-golf, buy each other gifts, hold hands, and call or text one another, with the relationship able to weaken if messages go unanswered, according to a separate report from LADbible.
Development on the title has reportedly cost Rockstar somewhere between $1 billion and $1.5 billion, making it, by most industry estimates, the most expensive entertainment product ever produced in any medium. Rockstar has not detailed every specific mechanic Haas described in her video, and the outlet said it reached out to Haas for comment.
