It’s official: comic book movies are not for kids. Or at least, the Deadpool movie definitely isn’t, because they’ll be checking IDs at the door for that one.
Although studios probably preferred a PG-13 rating for Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds has been pushing to get an R rating for the movie for ages. Makes sense—Deadpool has always been a character who seems like he’d be more comfortable in an R-rated world, even though I suspect that many of his fans are in the 13-16 age range. Too bad for them, I guess! I’m sure Deadpool would recommend that they all pirate the movie, since The Man won’t let them see it legally. (Ryan Reynolds might not recommend that. I’m just saying Deadpool would.)
Anyway, Deadpool contains “strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity.” Violence, swearing, and nudity? Deadpool’s a triple threat!
Who, exactly, is going to be graphically nude? We know that at least some part of the movie takes place in a strip club—so here I am, worrying yet again about whether or not this movie will be delightfully subversive or utter garbage. It could really go either way.
