Dave Chappelle hops on the Trump hate train, says he has ‘squandered’ the ‘opportunity’ to be a unifying force for Americans

It’s no secret that Donald Trump’s popularity is at an all-time low. Even people who have supported him for years, especially those aligned with the MAGA movement, have largely voiced their dissatisfaction with Trump, particularly regarding his recent actions, most notably his stance on Iran and the escalation that followed.
Amid Trump’s increasing unpopularity, a well-known public figure is openly sharing his thoughts about the so-called dictator-in-chief. That person is comedian and actor Dave Chappelle, who has never been a Trump supporter and has previously expressed his disdain for him on multiple occasions. He is once again voicing his opinions about Trump in an interview with PBS News, which was posted on the channel’s official YouTube page on April 21, 2026. In the video, Chappelle describes Trump as a “petty person” and believes he ‘squandered the chance to be a unifying figure in America.”
Dave Chappelle gets questioned about his comments on Donald Trump on SNL
Dave Chappelle has never been a fan of Donald Trump, and his criticism of him has only grown stronger over the years. Come to think of it, he has given plenty of reasons to feel that way. In the back of my mind, Trump has done at least a few things since becoming president for a second term last year that have offended someone or put Americans in danger.
Chappelle, on Tuesday, sat with Amna Nawaz for an episode of Settle In on PBS NewsHour, where he discussed “free speech, journalism and comedy” and why he “still has faith in people.” In a segment of that interview, Nawaz at one point referenced Chappelle’s appearance on Saturday Night Live in 2025 and brought up the part where he said that he knew Donald Trump was watching from his house and asked him to do better, as many people were looking up to him.
Dave Chappelle goes all guns ablazing on Donald Trump
Soon after interviewer Amna Nawaz asked Dave Chappelle about the comments he made in reference to Donald Trump in 2025 during a Saturday Night Live episode, she followed up with a question asking Chappelle for his thoughts on how Trump was doing in his second term as president.
Chappelle didn’t hesitate to answer as many in his position might and very directly said, “Man, come on, man. Nobody wants to feel this way. I don’t think anybody wanted a war. Uh, they definitely didn’t want to arguably lose one.” When Nawaz pressed further by asking Chappelle to clarify what he meant by the president doing better, he responded, “Well, I believe in that same monologue, I reminded him that everyone on earth is counting on him. Yeah. I think I made the point that the presidency is no place for a petty person.”
