Dallas Intern Goes to the Washroom at Work, Then Suddenly She Sees ‘dark Figures’ Coming Over to the Stall: ‘Lot of Trauma for a Toilet Break’

Messy!!

@shmates’s TikTok video from June 27, 2024, isn’t your typical “put a finger down if…” story you see every day. It’s scary, to say the least, and concerning because the incident happened at her workplace, which is supposed to be a safe space. Even more worrying is that she thought her experiences weren’t important enough to be brought up at a meeting, despite them being extremely serious. So what really happened?

@shmates (Katie), in her TikTok video using the popular “put a finger down if…” trend, mentions that on the day the video was uploaded, she had to use the restroom at her internship. She also says another woman was with her inside. Elaborating on the incident, @shmates shares that shortly after entering and going about their business, they heard male voices from inside the bathroom. At one point, they could hear them talking about tampons present in the restroom, and in another, they were praying for their lives as they began banging on the stall doors.

Naturally, they were scared by all that was happening, but luckily, they managed to escape unharmed.

@shmates had a scary experience at her workplace

On June 27, 2024, @shmates uploaded a video about a frightening experience she had at her internship. Recalling the event, Katie says she was in the bathroom with another person when it happened. As previously mentioned, shortly after Katie and the other individual went to their respective stalls, they heard men speaking inside the washroom. At first, Katie thought it was a janitor, but she later dismissed this idea because if it had been one, they would have announced their presence beforehand and asked if anyone was inside.

While all this was happening in Katie’s mind, she noticed dark figures approaching her stall. Not long after, these men tried to open the door of her stall. When they couldn’t open it, they tried shaking it to get it open. They did the same with the other girl’s door as well. Katie notes that she and the other girl froze during this time, which is a normal reaction to such a shocking event. After a while, these men eventually left the area, but not before completely traumatizing Katie and the other girl.

After leaving the washroom, Katie couldn’t find the other woman and wasn’t able to search for her immediately because she had to attend a meeting. She somehow managed to get through an over-hour-long meeting, and during that time, her friends and family kept urging her to report the incident to HR.

When the meeting ended, Katie finally contacted the HR person after initially failing to reach her. Upon hearing what happened, the HR representative acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and took her to the seventh floor, where Katie shared her experience with others in the HR department.

Later, just as Katie was about to go home, she drank an energy drink and felt an urgent need to pee, which quickly reminded her of her earlier washroom experience. Moreover, she began hearing noises coming from the bathroom that strongly resembled gunshots. She reached home at some point, as she notes in her video, but also states that all of these experiences have put her in a bad place mentally. She doesn’t even have access to her therapist right now, who would help her cope with the situation since she is on a long maternity leave.

I hope HR actually does their job instead of sweeping it under the rug.” User @dinonerd331 remarked, “I’d make a police report not only were they in there but actively trying to get into two occupied stalls.”

Statistics of gun violence in the United States

An article published by the Pew Research Center on April 28, 2026, reports that, according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) in 2024, 44,447 people died from gun-related injuries. This number includes gun homicides, gun suicides, law enforcement-related incidents, accidents, and cases with undetermined circumstances.

It must be noted that the aforementioned number does not account for deaths where gunshot injuries were a contributing but not the primary cause.
