Nevada woman says Costco worker wouldn’t stop asking her out. So she finally decides to give him a chance, but only if he does this one thing

When going for a quick run to Costco, most people don’t expect to be hit on or asked out on a date. However, the reality of being a woman in public means romantic propositions can come from unlikely places.
In TikToker Celeste’s (@celestegrajedarojas) case, it allegedly came directly from a Costco worker.
In a TikTok video she posted about the experience, which got over 181,200 views, hundreds of commenters were not exactly on her side.
What Happened at Costco?
“Every week I go to Costco,” Celeste begins. “In the past two weeks, there’s been this guy who works there who has hit on me.”
She says the first interaction happened while she was in the checkout line.
“He comes up to me… and asks if I’m single,” she says.
Celeste says she hesitated but eventually said yes. According to her, she was unsure because the worker was not her usual type.
“So then he asks me on a date, and then I hesitate even more,” she says.
Instead of giving him a direct answer, Celeste says she told him to ask her again the following week if he saw her.
“I just wanted some time to think about it,” she explains.
When she went back to Costco the next week, she says he approached her again.
“He sees me, and he’s like, ‘Celeste,’” she says. “I’m like, ‘Oh, [expletive].’”
The worker then allegedly followed up on the date. “So how about that date?” he asked, according to Celeste.
When she asked what the plan was, she says his answer didn’t win her over.
“He says, ‘The pool or the movies… a restaurant?’” she recalls.
Celeste told him it sounded like he had not thought about it much. According to her, he responded that he wanted to get her number first.
“I’m like, well, I want a plan first before I give out my number,” she says.
So she told him to take the week to come up with “an amazing date” she couldn’t turn down and pitch it to her next time.
“Maybe we’ll go on it,” she says.
Commenters Were Not Fully on Her Side
In the comments section, viewers were split. Some thought the worker’s approach was strange, while others thought Celeste was making him work too hard for a first date.
“Pitch the date ? Are you a venture capitalist,” one user asked.
“You’re too much work girl,” another wrote.
Others were more focused on how often she goes to Costco.
“I don’t know any single people who shop at Costco that much. please share what you need at Costco that often,” one commenter wrote.
Celeste replied, “I own a mobile bar and that’s where I get supplies.”
Another viewer suggested she should avoid the store entirely. “Time to switch costcos,” they wrote.
Celeste responded, “It would be worth the extra 20 minute drive.”
Are Costco Employees Allowed to Ask Out a Member?
Costco’s publicly available member policies do not appear to specifically ban employees from asking members out.
However, the company states that its warehouses are meant to be free from harassment and discrimination for both members and employees.
One could make the case that repeated unwanted attention could make a member uncomfortable returning to the store and may be considered harassment.
From reports from netizens, however, it appears the more common occurrence isn’t workers asking out members. It’s members asking out workers.
“As an employee. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS,” one Reddit commenter wrote. “I had a member flirt with me and go as far as asking me out. It’s super uncomfortable and now I obviously avoid him at all costs when he is in the warehouse. Just let people work.”
Another Reddit post came from a Costco shopper asking whether it would be strange to ask out an employee.
“For the past 1.5 years I’ve been wanting to ask out a guy at my local Costco,” the user wrote. “He works in the customer service area and I’ve never talked to him but when I’m at the store eating we make serious eye contact. I feel like he’s into me too. Would it be weird as a (31) female to ask a guy out while he’s at work?”
