Chipotle’s iconic takeout bag for family meals gets ‘high-fashion treatment’

‘If you want more, you should ask for a little more.’

Chipotle has officially launched a massive, limited-edition tote bag that turns their classic takeout packaging into a giant, high-fashion accessory. This new item is a comically oversized version of their standard brown paper bag. According to PEOPLE, the bag measures three feet wide, 24 inches tall, and 12 inches deep. The company is calling it the ‘Big Ass Chipotle Bag’. It holds a staggering 170 liters of space inside. That is nearly 45 gallons of capacity for your gear.

The restaurant chain is using this release to highlight its family meals. These meals are designed to feed groups of four to six people easily. The promotion kicked off on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, and is scheduled to run through November 10.

Customers can enter the sweepstakes if they are U.S. Rewards members. All that’s needed is to order a family meal through the Chipotle app or website to qualify. Each eligible order grants customers an automatic entry into the contest. Those who prefer to enter without making a purchase, can use an online entry form. Chipotle has said that the winners will be selected throughout a multi-week sweepstakes period.

The accessory is officially the biggest bag in the history of the brand

It is made from canvas fabric and looks like a blown-up version of the iconic bag customers see at every location. The company even showcased the one-of-a-kind tote alongside a trumpet, a Christmas tree, and a chair to emphasize its outsized proportions.

USA Today reports that the campaign was developed with the help of a Miami-based advertising agency called GUT. The team wanted to lean into the humor of the bag’s massive scale. Ricky Casal, Chief Creative Officer at GUT, shared his thoughts on the design approach recently. “You see this ridiculously oversized Chipotle bag and immediately get the joke,” Casal said. “We leaned into that simplicity, treating it like a luxury object and letting the scale do the storytelling.”

This strategy aims to turn standard packaging into a unique cultural artifact. The brand wants fans to feel like they are interacting with something special. They hope people will share the bag and keep it long after their meal is finished.

A press release from the company highlighted the artistic intent behind the project. “The campaign gives Chipotle’s iconic takeout bag a high-fashion treatment, pairing it with unexpected items including a trumpet, Christmas tree and Chipotle chair to emphasize its outsized proportions,” it stated.

Chipotle explained the deeper connection to its customer base

“The idea taps into the power of fandom, turning a familiar piece of packaging into a cultural artifact that fans can experience, share and keep long after their meal is over,” the company added. It is a fun and slightly ridiculous way to get people talking about their group dining options.

Family meals were first introduced in late August to simplify group ordering for customers. These bundles cost less than $10 per person. They can be customized with a choice of proteins like chicken, steak, barbacoa, carnitas, or sofritas. Each meal comes with a large bag of chips and 10 soft taco tortillas.

Customers can also get white or brown rice, black or pinto beans, and their choice of guacamole or queso blanco. The set includes shredded lettuce, cheese, and three additional salsas or toppings. Chipotle even provides bowls, forks, and napkins for up to six people.

The focus on value and abundance remains a core part of the company strategy

Earlier this year, CEO Scott Boatwright emphasized that customers should always feel free to customize their experience. He encouraged patrons to ask for extra portions if they want a larger serving. “If you want more, you should ask for a little more,” Boatwright said during a conversation with Yahoo! Finance on May 4. “I promise you, there’s never a team member on that line that is going to say no to you,” he explained.

Boatwright also confirmed that the brand is committed to generous serving sizes. “We will continue to put heaping spoonfuls of food in bowls and burritos,” he added. He believes that this feeling of abundance is a defining feature of the brand. “It has always been our brand ethos, and it still is to this day,” he said. “We serve big, beautiful bowls and burritos. No questions asked.”
