Chick-fil-A server posts a video about her farting on the job. Then on her next shift, the manager fires her: ‘Life happens’

While some flatulence is stronger than others and can startle people, it is a normal bodily function that everybody experiences—regardless of where they are. But for one Chick-fil-A server, a video about her allegedly farting while on the job seemingly landed her in hot water with her manager.
The incident was shared by Mariah (@guccigang3leg3000) on TikTok in a video that has since been viewed over 21.7 million times. In her video, Mariah recorded herself waiting to take orders from customers outdoors while in her Chick-fil-A uniform, with on-screen text that said, “Me letting it out because we outside.”
In TikTok humor, Mariah accompanied the video with an exaggerated farting sound effect to get her point across. A few seconds after the video, however, she added another clip where she told viewers, “Welp. I’m fired,” implying that her video caused her termination at Chick-fil-A.
Mariah has several policy infractions
Viewers were quick to think that Mariah was sacked from the popular fast food chain simply for relieving herself of gas. “U CANT FART ???” one viewer wrote. A second joked, “You’re supposed to hold it in until Sunday….” Another believed Mariah was fired to protect Chick-fil-A’s reputation. “I’m crying they never played bout they image,” the viewer said.
With her video becoming viral, Mariah explained in another video the real reason she was allegedly fired from Chick-fil-A—and it wasn’t because she actually farted during her shift. According to Mariah, the Chick-fil-A she worked at followed a point system for policy infractions, with 24 points as the maximum an employee can accumulate.
“Points can come from anything,” Mariah said. “If you’re late. If you do a no-call, no-show. If you call out. If you get written up.”
Mariah admitted that she accrued numerous points during her four to five months at Chick-fil-A. In a screenshot she shared that detailed her infractions, Mariah was late three times, which earned her one to two points for each tardiness. In two instances where Mariah called out a few hours before her shift, she gained four points each.
Mariah’s highest infraction was a no-show because she was sick, which increased her points by eight. Based on the screenshot Mariah shared, she built up 20 points from July to September.
Mariah was warned about making videos while in Chick-fil-A uniform
Mariah explained that her tardiness stemmed from moving to a new home, which put her 20 minutes away from her Chick-fil-A location—whereas previously, she’d lived just five minutes away. She also attends school, and since moving, she said she often found herself rushing to work after classes. “I didn’t get points because I was a bad worker,” Mariah said. “It’s just because life happens.”
According to Mariah, she attempted to transfer to a nearby Chick-fil-A location. However, because the stores have different ownership, she was unable to be reassigned. In the end, Mariah applied for a job at the nearby store and is still waiting for an interview.
The tipping point that led to Mariah seemingly being terminated, however, was due to her posting videos while wearing her uniform. Mariah admitted that she was previously warned about making videos with Chick-fil-A’s name attached to them, and acknowledged her mistake, saying, “I take full accountability. […] That’s their policy. I shouldn’t have done that.”
Mariah ended up making the second video despite the warning after allegedly experiencing a “worst, nasty attitude” from her manager, which created problems at work and made her want to quit. So when she turned up for her shift after making her farting video, she wasn’t surprised when she was told to clock out. According to Mariah, the second video added eight points to her infractions, and another four points for her calling out on a different day—bringing her final total to 32 points.
Despite the end of Mariah’s job, viewers were still amused that her farting video was the cause of her firing. “Tooted then booted,” a commenter joked. Another added, “fired for fake farting fmao.” Others were also shocked by Mariah’s wage, which she revealed was $9.50 per hour. Nevertheless, Mariah’s video goes to show that employees should always be mindful of the content they make while representing a company, lest they wish to be out of a job.
