Charlotte barista tries to end the argument politely. Then the customer gives her a vulgar goodbye in front of her child: ‘You’re pushing forty’

A Charlotte barista says a customer complaint over a drink order turned into an .argument that left her in tears. She says she was working alone when the situation escalated, and she struggled to stay calm.
The TikTok creator Lilly Rae (@seriouslyaddisonscousin) says the customer questioned her help with the menu and accused her of being disrespectful. She also claims the customer continued arguing even after she tried to end the conversation.
She says the exchange happened in front of the customer’s young daughter and became so overwhelming that she cried after the customer left. The barista later shared the story online after her manager encouraged her to talk about what happened.
She says she wasn’t expecting what happened next
In her TikTok video, the barista says she was working alone when a mother and daughter entered the cafe. She says the customer appeared frustrated while looking through the menu and had difficulty deciding what to order.
The creator says the customer asked for a black milk tea, strawberry matcha, and honeydew milk, but became confused when the barista explained they were separate drinks. She says she tried to clarify the order and offered to make a custom drink, while warning that it might not taste exactly the same because it was not a menu item.
The barista says the customer later complained that the menu was too complicated and questioned whether she wanted to order from the shop at all. She says the customer made comments about the difficulty of ordering loud enough for her to hear.
She says the disagreement continued as the customer compared the drinks to another boba shop and questioned the ingredients. She also says the customer criticized certain menu items but still decided to order them.
The barista says the customer became upset when the total came to around $20 after adding multiple items. She claims the customer also questioned why another customer’s drink had not been called out yet, even though that order was still waiting for another item to finish.
The creator says she eventually messaged her manager because she felt the interaction had become uncomfortable. She says she was already feeling overwhelmed before the situation reached its final confrontation.
The barista says the customer asked for her manager’s name and accused her of being rude. She says she explained she was only trying to help.
The creator says she tried to end the conversation by wishing the customer a good day. She claims the customer continued criticizing her anyway.
She says the exchange became overwhelming, leaving her shaking and close to tears. The barista claims the customer yelled, used profanity, and threatened to contact her manager before leaving the cafe.
After the customer left, the creator says she immediately broke down crying. She says her manager arrived shortly afterward and supported her after the encounter.
The creator ended the video by criticizing customers who yell at service workers. “And long story short, if you’re a forty year old woman, find better things to do instead of yelling at a barista,” she said.
The incident also echoes other viral TikTok stories about baristas dealing with difficult customers. In one case, a California barista said a customer couldn’t stop complaining throughout her visit, while another said a disagreement over a cappuccino order escalated until it left her in tears. Both stories prompted viewers to discuss the challenges service workers face when customer interactions turn confrontational.
The TikTok quickly filled with comments from viewers, many of whom sympathized with the barista and shared similar experiences from customer-facing jobs. One commenter wrote, “A customer told me, “you should smile more”, my grandpa died just 7 hours before my shift.” Another said, “Normalize telling rude customers to LEAVE.”
