Seriously, this China-only Call of DutyĀ trailer could have had an unusually buff potato playing the part that Chris Evans plays and I would have loved it. Then again,Ā that might be because I’m a sucker for that trope where TV shows jump back and forth between being inside and outside a video game.Ā And that trope of when somebody saves a comrade in arms with a pithyĀ action movie sloganĀ and then later they use the same line while saving him. Oh, and zombies. Always zombies.
Call of Duty OnlineĀ was developed exclusively for ChinaĀ by Activision, and will feature gameplay elements fromĀ Modern Warfare, Ghost and Advanced Warfare.Ā It premieres next week on January 11thĀ as a free-to-play online game withĀ in-app purchases for weapons and avatarĀ upgrades, and represents over three years of work in creating somethingĀ that would appeal toĀ the Chinese market,Ā where western shooters are generally unpopular and often even banned by the government. Man, no wonder they spent so much money getting Captain America to shill their product.
