1. Entry: To enter, access the <https://www.themarysue.com/calgary-cosplay-contest/> website (the “Website”), complete and submit your entry e-mail to [email protected] and submit images. Contest begins at 5:00 p.m. ET on January 26th, 2015 and ends at 11:59 p.m. ET March 1st, 2015. Once submitted, entries become the exclusive property of Alberta Entertainment Expo and The Mary Sue and will not be returned. For a copy of these Official Rules, print them from the Website. All complete entries will be posted with credits on a private portal, to be shared with the judging panel. All complete entries can also be shared throughout the contest by Alberta Entertainment Expo and The Mary Sue via websites and social media at any time. By submitting, you are consenting to be considered by both the juding panel and the public. The Top 10 (the “Finalists”) as selected by the Contest judges will be posted for voting by the public, and the finalist with the highest number of votes (the “Ultimate Winner”) will be awarded the prize (the “Prize”).

2. Eligibility: This contest is only open to: residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry; and residents of Canada who are over the age of majority in their province/territory of residence at the time of entry. This contest is not open to residents of Quebec. To collect the Prize, the winner must be able to provide relevant travel details for both them and their selected guest. As well, both the Ultimate Winner and their selected guest must provide a valid passport and be legally permitted to travel to and from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Employees and agents of Alberta Entertainment Expo and The Mary Sue and their respective affiliates, officers, distributors, agencies, and prize suppliers, and their immediate family members and persons residing in the same household of such employees are not eligible to enter or win.

3. Winners: Selections for the top 10 Finalists will only be made from photos and applications received no later than 11: 59 p.m. ET March 1, 2015. Potential finalists will be notified by phone, mail or e-mail, and posted directly to finalists page of the website on or before March 3, 2015. There is no monetary value to being selected as a finalist, and the selection is non-transferable. Finalists will be open for voting by the public, and eligible for the Prize. Entries are selected for the top 10 by a panel of judges selected by Alberta Entertainment Expo and The Mary Sue.

Selections will be judged on the following criteria:
• Amateur Status: Entrants must be considered Amateur. For the purposes of this Contest, Amateur status is defined as someone who is not currently a “Professional Cosplayer,” eg. someone who is paid to attend conventions and events as a cosplayer.
• Craftsmanship/Construction: Entrants must demonstrate that costumes, make-up, and other cosplay elements have been personally designed or constructed.
• Creativity & Passion: Entrants must demonstrate their passion for creative expression and pop culture.
• Guideline compliance: To be selected as a finalist, entrants must demonstrate that the they can wear their winning costume each day of the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo 2015, and that that costume will comply with the costume and weapons guidelines of the event. 4. Prize:
The Prize package includes:
• Two (2) Round Trip Flights to/from Calgary, Alberta, Canada – one for the Ultimate Winner and one for the guest of the Ultimate Winner. Flights will be selected and booked by the Alberta Entertainment Expo.
• Four (4) nights accommodation in one (1) hotel room equipped with two (2) beds at a hotel selected and booked by the Alberta Entertainment Expo.
• Two (2) Full Weekend VIP Passes to Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo 2015 (April 16-19, 2015).
• A position as judge at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo Costume Contest on April 18, 2015.

Prize is non-transferable. In the event that the selected winner cannot travel to Calgary, or otherwise cannot attend Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, the finalist with the second highest amount of votes will be awarded the Prize, and both the initial winner and the guest of the initial winner will forfeit the Prize.

The Ultimate Winner will be chosen by the public, as a result of an open voting system hosted on the website of The Mary Sue. The Ultimate Winner will be notified by phone, mail or e-mail, and posted directly to the Contest page of the website on or before March 15, 2015. If any prize notification is returned as undeliverable, or if The Ultimate Winner does not respond to notification within seven (7) days of the date of notification, prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner may be selected. The alternate winner will be the finalist who received the second highest amount of votes.

Except where prohibited by law, potential winners will be required to complete, sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Ownership/Liability Release and Publicity Release (the “Release”). Release must be returned within then (10) days from the postmark date, if not already submitted prior to entering the contest.

Prize is non-transferable. In the event that the selected winner cannot travel to Calgary, or otherwise cannot attend Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, the finalist with the second highest amount of votes will be awarded the Prize, and both the initial winner and the guest of the initial winner will forfeit the Prize.

5. General: Certain contest and sweepstakes are subject to applicable federal, state and local laws. Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of the judges, which are final and binding in all respects. By entering this contest, entrants expressly acknowledge that these Official Rules have been drafted in the English language, and that any translation prepared for any reason will be of no legal effect and the English version of these Official Rules shall govern any dispute. By participating, contestant releases Alberta Entertainment Expo and The Mary Sue and their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries and agencies and their directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability for any injury, death, loss, tax liability or damage of any kind arising from contestant’s participation in this Contest, or resulting from entrant’s acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the prize. Except where prohibited by law, acceptance of the prize constitutes and signifies winner’s consent that Alberta Entertainment Expo and The Mary Sue and/or its agents may use winner’s entry, name, address (city and state/province only), prize information, and/or likeness for promotional purposes in any media now existing or hereinafter devised, without additional compensation. Subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Alberta Entertainment Expo and The Mary Sue is not responsible for: (1) late, delayed, incomplete, delayed, destroyed, garbled, or incomplete entries, (2) incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry or story information; (3) any human error, technical malfunctions, or lost-delayed data transmission; (4) any omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, or software; or (5) inability to access any website or online service, or any other error or malfunction. Alberta Entertainment Expo and The Mary Sue. reserves the right to: (i) disqualify from this or any Contest, now or in the future, any person it finds, in its sole discretion, has intentionally violated these Official Rules, tampered with the entry process, the operation of the Contest or Website, or any other aspect of this Contest; and (ii) cancel or suspend the Contest in its entirety should tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or other causes beyond Sponsor’s control corrupt the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper play of the Contest.

6. WARNING. ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER PERSON TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS; AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, ALBERTA ENTERTAINMENT EXPO AND THE MARY SUE. RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEYS’ FEES) FROM ANY SUCH ENTRANT OR OTHER PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, INCLUDING SEEKING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.
