The Falcon Endorses Ben Affleck As Batman, Says He’ll Make the Caped Crusader “Cool Again”

Holy Rusted Metal Batman!

Anthony Mackie, who’s playing the Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, doesn’t just say “Yeah, that Ben Affleck, he’ll do a great job as Batman, next question please?” Oh, no. He provides some Batnalysis. But do you agree with what he has to say?

Said Mackie on the red carpet for Runner Runner, in which he co-stars with Affleck:

“I think [the casting is] great. My favorite Batman was Michael Keaton because he made Batman like an everyday guy we can relate to. I feel like the last few [actors playing] Batman have been lost in trepidation that you really can’t relate to. So I feel like Ben Affleck—what makes him a star is he has that everyman quality. I feel like he is going to bring that back to Batman and make him cool again.”

You hear that, Batfleck haters? Anthony Mackie just mic dropped you. And I say that because there actually is an Anthony Mackie mic drop gif. It is a thing of beauty. Save it and use it well.

While I wouldn’t say that Batman’s lost his cool factor (though he’s never been as cool as Mr. Freeze, hey-o!), I have to say I kind of agree with Mackie. For all that Christian Bale‘s gravel-voiced, superangsty Batman has dominated the landscape since Batman Begins, there are other way to interpret that character. Keaton was certainly never as grrrrarrrrrgh as the BatBale, and his Batman was great.

What do you think? Does Mackie have a point?
