‘Another lie’: Bernie Sanders Reminds Trump About One of His Supposed Presidential Achievements

Democrats in Congress have been lambasting President Donald Trump’s decision to take military action against Iran. Senator Bernie Sanders reminds the public why Trump had no reason to go on the offensive.

“Trump said we had to attack Iran because we can‘t allow it ‘to have a nuclear weapon.’ Really?” Sanders asked through a tweet, in reference to Trump’s claims last June 25, 2025.

The White House press release, ‘Iran’s Nuclear Facilities Have Been Obliterated—and Suggestions Otherwise are Fake News,’ announced that Trump was able to destroy Iran’s key nuclear facilities through a strike. This is coming from an official statement of the White House, and as written, any other information contrary to this is ‘fake news.’

Sanders added, “Vietnam. Iraq. Iran. Another lie. Another war.”

Like many other members of Congress, Sanders urged that a War Powers Resolution be passed immediately.

Trump’s shifting claims about Iran’s nuclear facilities

“They can never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said in his announcement on Saturday.

He continued, “That is why, in Operation Midnight Hammer last June, we obliterated the regime’s nuclear program.” Trump said he sought to make a deal but accused Iran of rebuilding its nuclear program. But further reports contradict the president’s statement. Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi went on record to suggest that Iran has agreed to zero stockpiling—something that the country had not done before.

“The single most important achievement, I believe, is the agreement that Iran will never, ever have nuclear material that would create a bomb.” Busaidi has been a key negotiator regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

“The peace deal is within our reach,” Busaidi claimed. After Trump’s decision to attack, peace seems to be off the table as Iran retaliates against U.S.-allied neighbors in its region. Peace is within reach, and it seems that it will only remain dangling in the foreseeable future.
